There have been many dumb rules changes over the last few years but I'm not sure why anyone would think this was a good idea. The prohibition on helping the runner dates from the era when teams sewed suitcase handles into the back's uniform so they could use him as a human battering ram. It is bad enough that you can now push the runner, which potentially endangers player safety if your head is trapped in an awkward position, but you see linemen grabbing a limb to drag him towards the goal line and it isn't called. It is also unfair on the defense because if you have hold of the runner and I grab hold of you I presumably get the flag for tackling someone other than the ball carrier.
