Eric Decker did a Jace Amaro this year and became a locker room nuisance... Not only did he go on IR for a shoulder he underwent hip surgery... The team was not aware on how serious his hip was otherwise they wouldn't of acted like they were blindsided by it... Expecting him to have shoulder surgery and possibly being the short term IR player with the possibility of returning... They tried to cover up their surprise but some read it as another betrayal by another player in back to back years...
Jace Amaro did this last year when he got hurt in the first preseason game and didn't wait until after the first game of the season to have surgery... He too could of returned near the end of the season which by then we were limping near the end...
Now after both surgeries he was a big part of the distraction in the locker room this year, very vocal on behalf of Fitzpatrick which couldn't help the coaching staff get a hold of the outspoken nature of some athletes like Brandon Marshall, etc...
Everyone likes him, believes he can be that go to guy but Chan Gailey is gone and he won't be able to be that slot guy we had the last two seasons... His production like Marshall's took a dip, yeah he only played in three games but a (-20%) catch radius off targets is a still a dip... (21 targets, 9 catches in 3 games) <-- this is the statistics of a possession receiver...
Eric Decker has $3 M in dead loss that can be split between the final two years of his contract, saving the team $7.25 M (2017) & $7.5 M (2018) so why wouldn't we make this cap cut?
His quarterback or friend won't be back, his running buddy is unlikely to be back and he is coming off of not one but two surgeries...
He was a good signing when we signed him, but he was one of the duo this past off season that kind of boycotted to get their guy his money...
