How Long Will You Go On, Jets, Abusing Our Patience?

Quo Usque Tandem Abutere, Jets, Patientia Nostra?

We are Jets fans. We bleed green. Now that the Cubs have won the World Series it is our turn (with apologies to Indians fans). We have had patience beyond reasonable expectations and while we have had brief glimpses of near-success, we have not had anything sustainable. Now is the perfect time to hit the reset button and finally build this thing the right way. No more quick fixes. No more signing superstars just past their prime. Candles often burn brightest just before they're about to go out and so have our players (see Revis, Fitzpatrick, Mangold, Brandon, Clady). Woody, now it's time for you to be patient. Let Maccagnan do it the right way.

It's encouraging to see Mac letting go of the past-their-prime gang. Now let's finish this thing and cut the rest of them; David Harris, Gilchrist, Decker, and Sheldon (albeit for different reasons). By the time it's all done there will be over $55mm in cap space. The plan now is simple, sign young talent at key positions. They won't be big names or sexy signings. Examples are;

Ricky Wagner, OT, 27
Nick Perry, OLB, 26
Kevin Mintner, ILB, 26
Logan Ryan, CB, 26 or Stephen Gilmore, CB, 26
Tony Jefferson, S, 25

As for a QB, I'll get back to you.

This will hardly hit the back pages but it will have a positive impact on the future of this team.

As for the next steps, here's the dream scenario; Mac and the Browns have a deal in place, if Trubisky or DeShaun Watson is sitting there at #6, the pick goes to Cleveland for #12, #33 (second round) and the Browns fifth round pick. Mac then makes his boldest move yet by shipping (the headache of) Sheldon Richardson to the Cowboys for pick #60. The rest plays out as follows:

#12 - Corey Davis, WR

#33 - Christian McCaffrey, RB
#39 - Jalen Tabor, CB

#60 - Pat Elflein, C

#70 - Adam Shaheen, TE
#106 - Kendall Beckwith, ILB

I would love to see Davis added to Enunwa, Anderson, Marshall and (hopefully) Devin Smith. Throw in a real tight end like Shaheen and you have something there. McCaffrey with Forte and Powell would look like a formidable threesome. This plan will improve both sides of the ball but may take a bit of time to play out. This team would be drastically different than last year's. Young and energetic guys who want to play. The offense could be good enough for a mediocre QB to lead them. More importantly there will be no more guys who need to eeck out another $15mm on top of the $100mm they've already made for the "benefit of their family" then not be able to make it to team meetings or walk throughs. Actually, Wilkerson will be left but if he doesn't clean up his act, he will be cut after 2017.

That leaves me with my next topic. Bowles needs to take charge of this team. I really don't care if we win 6-8 games as long as these guys play. There can be no more disgusting or embarrassing no-shows. I would rather bench 'superstars' who don't come to meetings than let them play even if it costs us a game or two.

2017 should be in the year we re-establish the core of this team; the rebuild of the offensive line, the establishment of the front seven as the core of the defense, and an up and coming receiving corp. And a team of committed players.

Patience

I like your concept, but I'm not thrilled with your first two picks. At #12 I would go with Ramczyk or Barnett, and best available player at #33 at the following position ILB, CB, Edge, OT (if Barnett is #12) or TE if someone like Engram slips that far. It looks like there will be a lot of really good players from middle of 1st through early 4th round, so if we can make those trades I'm all for it.

I'm gonna go ahead and predict right now that Corey Davis is the next Julio Jones.

I don't usually advocate a WR in the top 10, but this year I do.

Ramczyk would be a very solid pick. Can't argue that. I do think that Mac will look to sign a good, young FA OT to slot in day 1. I think they are counting on Shell/Ijalana on the other side. I also think that Mac knows he won't have a stud QB this year and will look to get whomever is there as much help as possible and that's why I think Corey Davis would be a realistic pick. I think Mac is very happy with the young WR he has but needs a #1 guy to make the wheel spin. I also think a guy like McCaffrey would help immensely although he had a great weekend and may not be there at #33. There are a lot of really good TE in the draft and I think Mac can wait until the third day to grab one.

Who knows anything? I just think Mac needs to play his cards right and FINALLY follow a LONG-TERM plan.

The #60 pick, while not crazy, would be a nice coup right now. Sheldon has made his stock drop.If the Cowboys were offering a 2nd rounder at the trade deadline theJets should've jumped on it.

I agree but less than that and I think you keep him for the year and hope he behaves if for no other reason than he's playing for a new contract.

personally, i don't want this self serving dope around during a full rebuild..

i say, let him play for a new contract on somebody else's tab..

we can go 3-13 with, or without him..

First off Jets fans have never been patient and neother has the FO or Woody Johnson. Patience is what we need, this is gonna take 2 years at least to turn around. With that said I like your plan but you hare missing some picks and I am not down with drafting a wr in the rd 1. We don't need a WR... So with that said I would draft like this in your plan and covering all our picks:

12th Pick - OT - Ryan Ramczyk
33rd Pick - RB Alvin Karma
39th Pick - CB -
Quincy Wilson, Florida
60th Pick - Edge Rusher - Tanoh Kpassagnon,
70th Pick - TE - Evan Engram -
107th Pick - ILB - Alex Anzalone,
150th Pick - FS John Johnson -
191st Pick - T - Javarius Leamon -
224th Pick - SS - Xavier Woods - Louisiana tech

BTW - the Jets are only 14th in cap room available for free agency. In fact NE which is 6th has about 20 million more to spend than us and Cleveland has about 70 million more to spend. We may be active but there's a lot of money to go around.

Hey the Cards have been waiting longer

But lets look at the big picture there are 32 NFL teams** so you should win a SB every 32 years in a perfect world. so every 64 years you win two. What does this tell us? We now have seven years to win our second one........but also in that 64 years we should lose two SB's that we are in.

So in the next seven years we will win one & lose two.....now go pick the years.

We can't be greedy now can we...like the Steelers, Pats49's & Giants.

Yes I do realize there were less teams years ago.......Ok we got screwed :global (31)::global (31)::global (31): That's why they invented Alcohol:global (3)::global (59): Hey g where is the whiskey

I read where we're showing interest in Nick Perry. He would be a huge get. Add Jefferson, Mintner and a tier 2 CB and the defense will be in much better shape. That would leave OT, CB and another CB as biggest draft needs, all reasonable gets especially if Mac can get an extra second round pick to move back in the first.
