How to waste $186 million

The Bell debacle is the latest and most glaring example of how organizational dysfunction can result in bad decisions. Former Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan signed Bell over Gase's objections. Two months later, Maccagnan got fired, leaving Gase with a player he didn't want. Enter Douglas, who spent the past year exploring ways to unload Bell, which created a wedge between player and organization and eventually led to irreconcilable differences.

The person who presided over this mess is Johnson, whose family is now paying $6 million to Bell to play for another team. You can't make this stuff up.

The Bell contract will go down as one of the worst contracts in Jets history -- heck, NFL history -- continuing quite a run of mismanagement. As the chart shows, there have been some clunker contracts in recent years.

Gase has been unwilling and unable to utilize a RB at any stop, so no different here. The problem wasn't Bell or the Bell signing (with proper coaching he would have been Darnolds best friend/weapon and outlet), but having a clueless coach who is too wrapped up in his own mind killed any possibility of this offense being any good.

We signed Curtis Martin for a ton of money way back when, and that worked out pretty damn good!

he should have used Bell since we were paying him anyway. pretty f ing stupid

I was happy with the Moseley signing, but he may leave here having played only one or 2? games. and being paid a zillion dollars too

Gase was against signing Bell especially to that type of contract...

Expect this anything and anyone Mike Maccagnan signed or drafted are in jeopardy to be cut or traded...

if this is the case the next couple weeks will let you know that Adam Gase will return next year no matter if the Jets end up winless this year...

I thought I read Gase wouldn't have picked Darnold either if given the choice. So he decided to completely ruin him. I can't wait until he is traded so he can start his career.

I knew I saw that story. How this organization can keep him as the HC is baffling. Just shows what useless pieces of shit they truly are.

The organizational structure is at fault here. Two divergent philosophies has this potential every draft pick and every player transaction, FA or otherwise. There can be no consistent philosophy, thus the constant rebuilding. It's flipping crazy and a wonder these Johnson knuckleheads can't see the flaw for what it is. This is what you get when you have a group of NYC business folks pulling the strings behind the scenes and not common sense football professionals. You see, it's not just the two-headed GM and HC monster, it's the business lead, the advertising and image people tilting the table towards stupid splash signings. It's obvious to me that the non-football people have J&J's ear(s) and so we have Hymie Elhai, Brian Friedman, Ian Lasher, and Suzie Qtips with too much say. The convoluted football management structure allows for the dilution of power at the football level, so Hymie et al., can maintain their power base. Just my humble opinion.

Revis -- $39M gtd
Wilkerson -- $37M gtd
Tru Johnson -- $34M gtd
Le'Veon Bell -- $27M gtd
Enunwa -- $20M gtd
Mosley -- $29M gtd (maxes at $43M)

guess now we have a money pincher and his not wanting to pay for talent which I am okay with just because when they sign they end up retiring while dressing as a Jet on game day... Albeit Enunwa got hurt he would of been the rule to this exception of players that packed in after signing their deals...

Bell came in out of shape his own explanation to his sub par performance but in reality he was being miss managed by Gase in the end...

Mosley opted out, another player thinking he is locked to make his money when he gets back but unfortunately they will figure a way to release or trade him... Most likely trading his big contract will cost the team another $6 million in dead loss freeing up $64 M... but what team is going to take on that contract? can only trade him to get cap savings otherwise the structure of the contract will cripple the Jets...
