Regardless who is the quarterback moving forward there is a clear misconception to this unit... We are built to run the ball but we don't, Fitzpatrick and Gailey love to spread things out... Problem is you can not play pitch and catch with one player (Brandon Marshall), yes prior to placing Eric Decker on injured reserve he was option number two... Beginning of the season we had a third option in Quincy Enunwa who disappeared last night...
I will say this again I believe Bilal Powell should be the lead back, not just for his overall ability but because he is a little more physical... Kellen Davis and Quincy Enunwa need to be more involved in the blocking scheme blocking for the backs... Matt Forte was brought in to compliment this offense but the way the have used him it seems like he was brought in to continue what Chris Ivory brought to the team who would be a step up with his receiving ability but that was the wrong move... Yes Forte compliments but shouldn't be the lead option not at his age...
With the injury to Eric Decker the Jets need to change up how they approach games maybe putting both Robbie Anderson and Charone Peake as the outside receivers and move Brandon Marshall as the slot receiver... Marshall could be that last option working over the middle of the field short to intermediate routes... We need to spread out defenses and create matchup issues that we can take advantage with...
Having Marshall as a slot, Q as that H-Back/Split end will give more options not only in the short passing game but allow the offense to get cute with the rushing attack, reverses and slip Forte out into the flat matched up against linebackers which he should be able to take it or break it for a big gain...
Just so frustrating that commentators are calling the play prior to the snap knowing how predictable Gailey and this offense has become...
Hope they fix things but just don't see it right now...
