Lets imagine, and its not hard to imagine, the Browns and Giants go Darnold and Rosen with the first two picks.

Perhaps not in that order, or maybe so, but those are the first two players off the board.

Who would you take at #3 and why?

For the record, I would take Baker Mayfield, though its scary to pass on Allen with his size, elusiveness and cannon for an arm.

But there's something about Mayfield that screams ELITE too me, a winner who plays like his life depends on it, and his accuracy as a downfield passer is incredible.

So it scares me to pass on Allen and I won't be upset if we take him, but life on the line, I would take Mayfield.

How bout you? (Please Vote)

If I had to go in order I would take Allen, Barkley, Nelson, Chubb, but that is only because we gave up so much that we have to get a QB. If for some reason they took Barkely or Chubb I wouldn't be pissed, but I would wonder why.

Mayfield for me. You mentioned Allen's cannon for an arm, Mayfield is right behind him. According to Our Lads, Mayfield had second strongest arm at combine, right behind Allen at 60+ MPH. To put that in prespective Hack who everyone says has a cannon threw at 58 MPH. Except he is a bit shorter then most, IMO Mayfield looks like a special QB, and a natural for NYC

Allen's strong arm but inefficient performance makes me worry a lot about his ability to make reads, hit windows - esp given low level opposition. Dont want Jeff George

I would have stayed at 6 and taken Nelson

And me. Since we didn't, I go with Barkley who is the best player in the draft. But just like the QBs and Bridgewater he is not going to prosper behind our offensive line. Allen or Mayfield would have fallen to us at #6. I like what the Giants are doing, they are serious about fixing their line.

I don’t want to make excuses for Allen, but the Wyoming team he played on last season lost some good players from the year before. And Mel Kiper said on his podcast that Allen was victimized by drops from a lot of his receivers. At least partially explaining the completion %.

I’ve got Allen as my third best option. Rosen is 1, Darnold is 2. But i’m pretty sure Cleveland is taking him. If the team feels good about Mayfield, then take him. He’d be my 4th choice though.

My only fear here is that we traded away those picks and they take the QB that would have still been available at 6 anyway.

To Gramoah's point about trading to move up to get a player that would've been there at #6. The only QB that would have been there is Mayfield. So I would be pissed that we drafted him and that we lost so much to get him. He would be the only QB not worth trading up for IMO. I have started watching Allen videos and they guy can throw. He can throw it deep which we have never really had. He can throw it in tight windows. I like Darnold, I like Rosen as a QB, but not sure about his love for the game. I also like Allen's physical tools that can't be taught.

Can you imagine having traded away 3 second rounders and not taking a QB??

Allen had the fewest drops of any QB in the class. Even his adjusted comp % is well below par
I think he has the highest ceiling , and may actually be the most pro ready. He ran a pro style offense, is familiar under center, called audibles, went through progressions. Shined at the Senior bowl.
He seems to rush his throws, when he's relaxed he looks great. Just scares the hell out of me with how inaccurate he can be when he forces throws.

Denver is pretty high on Mayfield so I don't think he would have dropped to 6. It's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out

Mayfield is probably about 5th in arm strength in this class.
I would say Allen at 1, Jackson is definitely right behind him at 2 , Rosen / Darnold followed by Mayfield. These aren't pitchers. The velocity at the Combine means nothing. Guys are working on different things, some may not throw as hard to focus on accuracy, look at Watson last year. Every one jumped on the low velocity and labeled him a bust. Looked good before the injury.
i like Mayfield , he has that it factor. Played very well vs some great Defenses when he faced them. Excells in the short game and love the accuracy. Only real question is height. He's adapted at the college level, can he do so in the NFL? That's the biggest question he has to answer.

The saving grace is that defenses won't be able to read his eyes like they did with previous QBs. They won't be able to see them behind his offensive line. He'll need to throw a lot of timing passes because defenses in the NFL move a whole faster than he is used to. He won't have time to look for receivers oftentimes. He's a versatile and smart kid so I believe in time the height thing will not be a problem. He is without question very talented. I do still have some concerns about his personality though.
