This roster is suppose to be competitive but it looks like a half wit put it together, I know Maccagnan is a good scout from his days in Houston... There is plenty of talent around the league on other practice squads that would not only complete our lineups but give us that ability to really define a rebuild process which is not happening at the moment not with the likes of Steve Mclendon, Matt Forte and a few others that will create controversy even on this board...
I do understand why GM Maccagnan signed Matt Forte to this type of contract as he was expecting to keep last year's core roster together for another year to continue the slow turnover of this roster using the draft... But with the locker room headaches of Sheldon Richardson vs. Brandon Marshall then Ryan Fitzpatrick and his cohorts, the time to do a full rebuild was past due...
Like I said there is plenty of talent on both sides of the ball that would compliment what we are trying to accomplish right now... Problem is how to create cap space to allow certain other trades/releases that will command dead loss while picking through the drafted/free agent rookies that are tucked away on practice squads around the league and who not only fit here but be productive on the active roster....

This above roster looks more like a rebuild in place than the one we currently have... If certain players don't show promise or fit in our scheme don't be afraid to pawn them off via trade and keep building through the draft until this team has the right pieces to compete moving forward, it isn't that hard is it because it seems we need rocket scientist in our front office to get it right...

West Coast offense:
There are possibly a few teams that may entertain a trade for Josh McCown just because their quarterback situations are problematic so early in the season... Reason for a trade will save us $3.5 Million of the $6.5 Million his cap hit is currently... Only way to make this trade happen is offer a sixth round with McCown for someone's seventh round selection... With this move, Bryce Petty who arguably was the best quarterback this off season among the three should of been anointed the job, this will make most of the fan base happy... Leaving Christian Hackenberg the legit number two, who will get reps and be the scout quarterback for the season...
Now moving on to one of the most disgusting displays of decision making, making Matt Forte the starter after being out played by Bilal Powell... Can Powell be the lead back, yes and with drafting a comparable running back in Elijah McGuire could spell the end for Bilal after this season... Here is one slight difference between these two is Powell's experience and overall body of work along with McGuire's athleticism could really spread defenses in both the passing game and running game... So are there teams that will take a flyer on Matt Forte for a late round pick even swap late round picks while eating some of the guaranteed contract this management afforded him when they signed him... Expect at least $1.5 Million dead loss could get Forte traded to a RB needy team... Now having two similar running backs the Jets would be smart to find a power back like former UNC Tar Heel currently on the Oakland Raider's practice squad Elijah Hood... There is one more move the Jets should be doing is finding that blocking fullback they expressed Morton's West Coast system should have and there is one kid Sam Rogers on the Los Angeles Rams practice squad that would be perfect for our team...
Once Seferian-Jenkins comes back along with Will Tye and rookie Jordan Leggett the Jets will have a solid trio at tight end to work with moving forward...
Wide Receivers core is a mess, our rookies are going to lose reps to both veterans Kearse and Kerley... Now the best part is Kearse has trade value and he could be sent to a receiver needy team like Carolina that need that true number two for Cam Newton... What Kearse is worth is debatable, but a mid round something like third round pick would be intriguing... Keeping Kerley for punt returns and slot receiving duties will help short term on any development for our young ones... Is Robby Anderson a true number one, maybe... We know there is legit potential with both rookie receivers in Hansen and Stewart, they make four on the roster... As for Jalin Marshall he has a home here as long as he can produce as a receiver and he showed promise so far in his young career... Charone Peake looks like he needs to be sent down to the practice squad to develop his game... Khalif Raymond is better served on the practice squad especially after two muffed punts at Buffalo... We should run with five receivers, so the Jets could poach another young buck from another practice squad like Travis Rudolph (NYG), Bug Howard (IND) or stick with this group of four and trio at tight end that can lineup as receivers in this offense scheme...
Offensive line is so screwed up on so many levels that only can be fixed by selling a couple of pieces and rolling with the others... James Carpenter is the best offensive lineman on our roster and has significant trade value throughout the league, teams like Packers, Steelers, Chargers and Bengals all have this position need... The Jets could reap a solid draft pick from moving him... Another possible option is Wesley Johnson who contract is his tender of $2.74 Million which is cap space we need and a late round pick for him is worth the move... Dakota Dozier at left guard seems like a long shot but he deserves a shot... Jonathan Harrison this off season and preseason out played Wesley Johnson yet is the backup, he also played majority with Bryce Petty who played out of his mind... Beachum's contract ensures he is here for at least this year and we don't have the depth to play another in his left tackle spot so he is safe for now... Between Ben Ijlana, Brandon Shell and Brent Qvale the Jets have options at right tackle... Trading Qvale is an option, with Shell as the starter and Ijalana the swing tackle backup for both positions... The Jets could then sign a couple of rookies or second year men behind center and guard... Former Baylor Bear Kyle Murphy on the Jaguars practice squad would be ideal backup at center... Murphy and Petty have history at Baylor together... Acquiring a guard-tackle option like Adam Bisnowaty off the (NYG) practice squad could fill multiple needs and could develop into a fierce option at right tackle or either of the guard spots should be an option...

Attacking 3-4 defense
After this year Mo will have written his fate... Good or bad he could be playing his final year with gang green just because the style of defense that TB & Rodgers like to run is to have hybrid defensive end/outside linebackers at the end position... Leonard Williams is better inside and should be the team's nose tackle moving forward... Mike Pennel is a good second option behind Leo... If we retain Kony Ealy, they could promote Lawrence Thomas and have to athletic bookends surrounding Williams inside... Player like Deon Simon has potential as a nose tackle but for some reason they moved him down to the practice squad... Pelon has talent and his familiarity with Leo might of helped him snag a roster spot this year... As for Mclendon, he has trade value and as of now the team really doesn't need his so so play on this talented defensive line... Finding a trade partner should be a top of the front office's game plan as there are suitors that could use his experience inside... This will open the door for Lawrence Thomas to be elevated to the active roster...
Outside Linebackers are not bad but could be boosted with another pass rusher like second year man Shiloque Calhoun currently on the Oakland Raiders practice squad... Still confused on Edmond Robinson's worth or potential to this team but Calhoun would be a better option behind fifth year standout Josh Martin... Donahue and Jordan Jenkins round out this position with Mauldin on IR w/designation, could be another position to address this upcoming off season...
Speculation on the middle linebacker jobs are few and far between... Darron Lee has potential but needs to be complimented with a thumper inside not another coverage speed linebacker in Demario Davis... Davis has poor coverage skills and always seems to take wrong angles in pursuit that was his problem the first go around and seems he hasn't fixed it... Bruce Carter and Julian Stanford are solid short term options but the Jets could do well in acquiring Scooby Wright from Arizona's practice squad giving someone who can play along side Lee and fill the void of that true run stopper... Wright is athletic enough to play in coverage and is able to cover sideline to sideline which will allow Lee to blitz or spy on the QB... Possibly sign rookie Riley Bullough off the Buc's practice squad could fill out this position with potential and bodies moving forward...
For now safety position seems to be locked down, with Brooks and Miles as the depth behind the rookies...
Corner position is still puzzling as much as you want to root for Buster Skrine he is a lost puppy in this scheme... He clearly is a zone cover corner not a man press cover corner... A team like his former team mate Joe Haden just signed with could use him in their rotation... Even if the Steelers are only willing to pony up a mid late round pick take it... Jeremy Clark is likely out for the entire season, kinda like a red-shirt year not counting against the team's active roster... Derrick Jones already on the active roster the Jets should look to acquire one or two more options to fill with second year man Juston Burris, free agent signee Morris Claiborne and third year corner Darryl Roberts... Another player to explore trade value is Marcus Williams who backed in to his job this year on the active roster... There are plenty of youth and potential available, just need to go after it...
