If the season ended today, the Jets would have the #5 Pick

My Early TOP 5 Projections:

  1. BROWNS - Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina
  2. 49ERS - DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
  3. JAGS - Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama
  4. BEARS - Myles Garrett, ER, Texas A&M
  5. JETS - Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
If you don't like the pick for the Jets, thats fine, I ask only that you tell me who you would take instead?

I love this pick Ham! Seeing what Ezekiel Elliot has done for the Cowboys makes me drool on what a similar player can do for the Jets. Granted, the Oline is no where near as good as the Cowboys line but we can improve that in free agency and draft.

Regarding Fournette, I have heard that he's taken a ton of punishment in college and that he is damaged goods. Have you heard anything like that or do you think he'll be a star?

He's had a bum ankle this year and he's missed some games, also taken a lot less carries than last year, but IMO thats a good thing, less wear and tear. He's only 21 and he should be fine. When he's healthy, he's a monster. I'd like to get one of those two two QB's, but if they're both gone, Fournette makes life a lot easier on Petty or Hack.

Fournette is a big name, but I would love a pass rusher and Myles Garrett would fill that need day one. I doubt he drops to us, but maybe we can get closer to #1 by losing all our games. Thats what I will hope for. Fournette won't see success behind this shit OL.

However I would like to see OL the first two rounds, but not sure the value at #5.

Exactly, I would love to snag a franchise LT with this pick, but I don't see the value this high. Ditto an elite edge rusher after Garrett or a TOP 5 QB after Trubisky and Kizer. The way I see it, Fournette is the BAP, some people think he's another Ezekiel Elliott, I've even heard comparison to Adrian Peterson. Honestly, I don't love taking a RB this high, but its not a particularly strong draft class and Fournette has a very high ceiling.

I would consider Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin to be the pick at #5. Tremendous upside as a LT and has only scratched the surface. We can't stop there with the OL, so hopefully we can unload Richardson for a 1 or 2 and use for secondary help. With our own #2 go best available OL again, perhaps a RT. That leaves us with our #3 and #5 to get a C and RB to round out the offense rebuild. If either of our young QBs has a chance of succeeding, it will be because we have a decent OL that can support a run game.

I love the Fournette pick and it makes since to me. I'd rather have Kizer but knowing our luck, he turn out to be a bust (if and only if he came to us). Same could be the case with Fournette. Then again, we could land a goldmine like Dallas did with Fournette and some other rookie QB. Still have Petty and Hack, which we really have no idea what they're capable of.

i'd be happy with fournette. also not traditionally a fan of taking a RB that high, but it's a place were value meets need. and as a michigan homer, i'd be thrilled with jabrill peppers, who can help in all 3 facets of the game. probably a safety in the pros, but a hybrid type that can also rush the passer. he's an electric return guy and can play RB, slot WR and even wildcat QB. i'd also be happy with an OT, but not sure any merit that high of a pick.

as to your mock, i can't see QBs going 1&2. while trubinsky may eventually find himself that high, kizer would be a huuuuuge reach at 2. right now, he's not even considered a 1st rounder. kiper has him as his 4th QB and only trubinsky is even on his top 25 board.

I feel like the Browns will look to trade out for bulk, like multiple 3rd/4th rounders etc. Seems like not trading that #1 pick is anti-moneyball.

I'm a Notre Dame fan, and I agree about Kizer. He'd be a reach in the top part of the first round. Peppers would be a great pick. But the Jets need to suck a little more to get him. LOL

I would prefer not to use such a high pick on a RB who is injured and who was stifled by strong opponents.

I also worry that when a player can play multiple positions, it suggests that he doesnt have one position at which he is a game changer at the NFL level.

Interesting points.

But Peppers looks to me like a Troy Polamalu clone. I'd grab him without a second thought.

CB or Tackle is how I figure they'll utilize the 5th pick. It's no secret to anyone coming into this season that Ol would be a problem area. Still the way it proved everyone right has to be shocking? It is for me.

I really didn't see the secondary sinking the way it has. I certainly did not see Revis crashing back to earth so fast? Honestly, I thought his play was in decline, but the way his play has gone down the tubes is so shocking to me.

Either way, these are areas in DIRE need. I just don't think Mac can afford to ignore these units any longer. FA and the draft are going to have to be involved just to get a few players in place............

Trubisky would look great in Green and White though.

Yet if Fournette falls to us, that would be amazing. Yet with our BS luck, we'll start winning next monday night and go 5-11.

What about the Carolina Panthers? Aren't they still a 3 win team?

Waste of a pick. I don't know available players because I'm not an avid college fan.
Ezekiel Elliott was a great match for a team that already had an elite o line. on the Jets, a rb would get injured. The only exception for me would be a rb with huge odds to be Adrian Peterson good.

Top 5 you must draft a franchise player. Maybe a qb falls to us, but then do we think either is worth a top 5? If you can't get an elite contributer then you need to trade out.

If you believe next year's qb class is better, then trade back and target next year's number 1.
2 first round picks next year will let us trade into top 3.

If we can draft an elite qb, edge rusher, LT, cb, wr in that order of importance,do it. If not, trade back. We need bodies.
