On Ik Enemkpali: I think he’s going to fit into a number of packages. He plays with excellent leverage. I think he’s going to be a backup guy/special team player. I think you’re going to see him in some of their packages to rush the passer.

He jumped out at me with his abilities. He’s very, very quick off the ball, with an explosive, high-leverage technique.

On James Carpenter: He has excellent technique. I was impressed with what I saw in him. I think they’ve got a real rock in him at their left guard spot.

On the Quarterbacks: Geno Smith is the guy. He’s the guy. We know the mistakes he’s made. I’m looking for small steps, and I’ve seen some progressive, small steps from him. I also know he has a better supporting cast.

I don’t see a competition, I just haven’t seen it from Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Not to toot my own horn, but this is why I had IK making the team in the early roster projections I posted prior to camp. I saw some things from this kid last year, particularly in the preseason because he didn't get much time in the regular season, but I saw some things that told me this kid has some real upside. He's thick, strong, violent, and he plays faster than he clocks. I see some James Harrison in this kid. Harrison was a UDFA, while IK was a 6th RD Pick.

He also mentioned that he didn't see anything from any RB not named Chris Ivory that he liked. He also wasn't keen on STs from what he saw. And he raved about Leonard Williams. Absolutely man-crushed.

This dude is RIPPED!!!!! He doesn't look like no college kid, this dude is a MAN, this is an NFL linebacker from central casting, and its not only his upper body, look at his bottom half too, those are Earl Campbell thighs, tree trunks!

I noticed IK last preseason as well, and I also had him on the final 53. Lets just hope he is not just another preseason superstar, like Ratliffe. I don't think he is

One thing I love about Bowles is that he is constantly asked about young players who are standing out and he never gives them praise. He won't allow any of them to get ahead of themselves or rest on their laurels.

Have you thought about changing your pick due to the Richardson disaster offseason? I thought about changing my sig...but he's still one of my favorite players to watch...so I haven't. If they come down with a 1 year or 12 game suspension...probably will though.

It sounds like he'll be good depth, but that's about it.

Ik gives you something a bit different from your typical Rushing OLB. Just a relentless, get under your pads type who creates all sorts of issues for opposing teams. I really like this kid and my guess is that Bowles will tap into his potential.

Assuming Sheldon plays for the Jets at some point this year, I would go with four down linemen on obvious passing downs and install Mauldin and IK together as pass rushing OLB's.

Its funny you should say that, because I went back and edited to suggest the nickel when we go to the pass rushing package. I think we can take Davis off the field and go with six pass rushers, the four down linemen and two pass rushing backers (IK and Mauldin), and five DB's.

This could be an awesome package when (IF) Sheldon gets his head out of his ass and plays this year.

I'm good with the four down linemen, Wilkerson inside and Williams outside probably makes more sense.

The backers, I remove the MLB (Davis) and replace Pryor with IK.

Pryor I have moving back to SS where he can give you another blitzing pass rusher or play in coverage.

For 11 you can go so many different ways because we have so much depth at DB and plenty of backers to choose from.

If you want another pure edge rusher you can go with IK or Mauldin.

If you want a stay at home MLB to protect verses a draw play, you can keep Harris or Davis on the field.

If you want a guy who can rush or cover and keep the defense guessing, you can go with Antonio Allen as a S/LB hybrid.

If you want to flood the zone with coverage and lockdown the entire field, you can go with McDougle or Marcus Williams, in which case you can deploy Calvin Pryor as another blitzing pass rusher if you wish.

Bowles made it clear today Mauldin has a way to go. He also said IK can run rush the passer. Look for Babin to be cut
