In Zach They Trust

They didn't get WR Tyreek Hill. Or DE Chandler Jones. Or WR Amari Cooper. Or S Marcus Williams. The Jets' biggest free-agent splash was a guard, and we all know a guard isn't going to excite the masses or tilt the Vegas odds in their favor.

Their patient and methodical approach can be frustrating for fans, especially with so many AFC teams making blockbuster moves. The folks on the inside -- the decision-makers at One Jets Drive -- aren't in panic mode, but the events of the last two weeks have reminded them of an undeniable truth.

More than ever, everything hinges on Zach Wilson.

If the quarterback follows the career trajectory of Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen, who improved dramatically in Years 2 and 3, the Jets believe they will be among the AFC elite. If he sputters again or peaks at average, they're doomed to mediocrity and another rebuild in a couple of years.

General manager Joe Douglas and coach Robert Saleh knew their future was tied to Wilson as soon as they drafted him second overall last year, and now that is magnified because of the crazy new landscape in the AFC. There's a Catch-22 element to this because it's unfair to expect him to be a savior without a game-changing weapon. Hill, at an exorbitant cost, would've been that guy.

Under normal circumstances, the Jets would be in trouble, but this isn't normal because they're loaded with draft picks -- nine total, including four in the top 38.

They have the draft capital to get better. What they really need is a capital improvement from Wilson.

This article neglects one small detail . If the Jets build the team and the QB doesn’t manifest himself then this accursed franchise can simply do what the RAMS did and trade for a veteran QJB to take them over the top .
It would be amazing if Wilson becomes that Franchise QB and lead this team to the championship but just like Goff and his mistake of a contract didn’t hinder the Rams, it shouldn’t hinder the Jets unless the team isn’t built right .
The key to this regime’s future is what they add from this upcoming draft . Build the team and pray the QB is who you thought he was or go buy one like the Rams did or like the Colts have done .

agreed... the reason we didn't get Jones, or Williams, or Cox was because we haven't been a relevant playoff team in over a decade.
build a great team, and the great FA's will come "and" we will not have to break the bank to get them.

it's about being ready for the moment and the Jets are not facing their moment yet. 2023 is a big season and a guy like Chandler Jones might be a bit too much aged by then. Next offseason will be a very key FA period as they strive to make a push for postseason. This season is about learning to win a bit more. I fully expect them to be a thorn to the more established teams like they were vs TB, but this year win some of those

My problem was last year watching very catchable passes ,many in 3rd not caught to where announcers talked about how many passes not caught. You can have Rogers but do you think with our group he would put big numbers? Doubt it. So maybe we draft one that grows with Zach. Tough being a Jet when your team get humiliated in front of all by Pats.

I’m really curious about who the Jets will add to their receivers room . As of today my top two would be Dotson and Pickens.
