after bowles named fitzpatrick the starter for next monday, i began to wonder.. is he really as thoroughly incompetent as i believe him to be?? LOLz i still think that's conceivable..

still, maybe this is a power play between him & maccagnan?? was this (continued) decision made out of spite?? does he already know maccagnan wants him fired no later than season's end??

is bowles refusing to play petty or 2nd rounder hackenberg, in an attempt to get maccagnan fired to try to say his own job??

I wasn't referring to TB or Macc but you sir, there is enough negativity on this forum to start another thread bashing the head coach, general manager and/or whomever else everyone wants to blame for this horrendous season needs to have a reality check...

Mike Maccagnan was hired through Casserly and company, it was Macc's choice to hire Todd Bowles who came in with the plan that he wanted to hire Chan Gailey as OC and Kacy Rodgers as DC... First year we did okay, this year the play of the QB, OL & Secondary crippled any chance of us succeeding... Players are responsible just as much as the coaching staff and front office for this debacle... Veteran players getting injured destroyed our chances this year...

I can go on being with the optimistic approach but to no end on this forum right now with all the bloody hatred from so called fans... I get it, thats why I have let you guys vent... But it isn't one thing or another and in a whole there are plenty of things that will be fixed by TB & company or new coaching staff (which is highly unlikely)...

Was it a mistake, yes...

Could they have pulled in the reigns a bit or a lot in the first quarter of the season, yes but Fitz is Chan's guy and Chan runs the offense...

Bowles a defensive guy gave that power to Gailey to see fit on his knowledge and experience to game plan week to week...

Was giving Gailey full power on offense wrong, yes...

Was Gailey giving carte blanche to Fitz wrong, yes...

The biggest problem with the offense is predictability, Gailey is stubborn utilizing the same game plan he ran in Buffalo -- think teams are aware of his playbook and tendencies...

Think the biggest how do you do was how the Jets were stupid enough to sign Matt Forte, yes he has had some what of a decent season but they were so in a hurry to sign him and not let him go to New England that they didn't realize what they had in house...

Todd Bowles stated once in the off season that a player can lose his job by another player taking it... How can Petty take it, well simple in practice... TB wants to win games, and I agree right now we need to win a game especially on prime time monday night... If we lose yet again it will be Petty starting the week after I can almost guarantee that is the plan... We have three more division games that don't mean spit on overall of the season but means you want to win those games no matter what and if Fitz gives us the best chance then so be it... But feel the decision on quarterback ultimately is Bowles but more so Gailey more comfortable right now with Fitz at the helm...

one starts with Fitz and his followers... Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Nick Magnold, Matt Forte have been vocal on their admiration of the veteran qb... have to believe if Fitz doesn't like or believe in something he has the pulse of those veterans to make his feelings felt across the locker room...

the other is Revis who is admittedly open through the media of his decline from grace this year... well if he knows he is breaking down and is oft injured with various minor nicks could of went to TB and asked to work with him to convert to safety so he can be the coverage over the top while allowing the young ones to be physical off the line allowing the defense to be more blitz happy from the front seven with security deep...

another is the quiet distraction of disgruntled Sheldon, we don't know how he is acting in house about the team trying to trade him...

then all the injuries throughout the roster throughout the season didn't help since our depth chart is young not experienced... this year we wanted the team to build upon last years successful failure... but was still a failure because we couldn't beat teams that were clearly better than us... this year will be a building block on what type of players they need and they need to stay away from or get rid of because they aren't a good fit...

at the end of the day it is disappointing but it is not as bleak as many are making it...

on the Fitz thing, Petty has to man up in practice and take the job vocally then prove it when he gets those snaps that he is worthy to be the guy... this roster needs to win, not play for the best draft pick... we will be selling a couple of players at season's end and will acquired much needed picks to draft accordingly... this draft is far from talented with clear cut first round selections... after the top 3 it will be a crap shoot of talent... and the talent we need won't be had in the first round...

I agree about the negativity. It gets a little over the top with some of the commentary about wanting to see people get injured, wanting to see the team get humiliated, ect.

I understand the fans are pissed. I am, too. But you are right about there being a list of things wrong with this team. Age, injury, underperformance, you name it. This team needs a few more years to get it fixed. Petty clearly doesn't have the confidence of this coaching staff yet.

Can't blame schedule when our offense was putting up 30 points a game last year, and only scored 6 against the rams. We are probably averaging 10 less points a game this year, which is hugely due to health. Decker getting hurt made us 1 dimensional, instead of our veteran rb complimenting our passing attack, he would need to become the focus,but is too old for that. The equation doesn't work when there's injuries.

I remember a couple games last year when the comment was made that our offense actually saved our defense a couple games. Our defense was borderline last year,but we were scoring plenty of points.

I doubt it has anything to do with Maccagnan. Part of it is that he is trying to save his own job, and for some reason thinks Fitzpicksix will get him more wins.

He may well be showing defiance here, but I would argue that it is as incompetent to choose a starting QB out of spite as it is to just stupidly think the organization is helped in any way by playing Fitz.

Every coach lives in the short term, and GMs manage in the long term. At this point, I have to say, I hope Bowles' term here is short, and Maccagnan's long.
