Is it worse to get to the Superbowl and lose, or to not get there at all?

We all want so much to get there. How would it feel to get there and lose?

It would be pretty terrible, wouldn't it?

We were one game away two years in a row, not too long ago. And those losses felt pretty bad.

But, getting there and then losing? The thought of it gives me the creeps...

I posted something similar not too long ago and got chewed up. I hope to god that if we get there, we win it. I will be depressed for quite a while, if not.

well D, you have a namath avatar..

did you get to enjoy our only SB appearance/win?? i didn't..

& yes i would be absolutely sick over watching the jets lose a SB.. but the two week build up & seeing our logo in one of the endzones would be almost be surreal for me by itself..

Yes, I did see SBIII. I was 19 in 1969. And the potential pain of losing never occurred to me back then: we get more concerned about things like that as we age, I suppose.

LOL

I don't even know if I could watch the game with out a straight jacket. If they lost. Just don't want to think about it. Not likely I'll make it another 50 years to the next one

well, i go back far enough to remember the infamous don shula "mud bowl" quite well..

bottom line, the only way to win or lose a super bowl is by qualifying for one..

so there is that......

Players who lose the superbowl say it is the hardest loss ever to get over. It's got to be. Knowing you were so close but failing and knowing You may never get the chance again.

The worst loss we have had to endure is an afc championship game loss and the Mud Bowl was a bad one. Dolphins beat us 3 times that year. I hated them back then almost like I hate the cheatahs now. Funny thing is the cheatahs have made me forget my hate for the Dolphins cause I hate the cheatahs way more then I ever hated the Dolphins. At least with the Dolphins through the years we took turns with winning streaks against each other. We haven't had a winning streak against the cheatahs in 15 years

I would assume it's much worse to get there and lose then to not get there at all, I guess. But it will depend on how bad you lose when you get there. If you lose the way the Broncos did to Seattle two years ago or Seattle lose to NE last year then that's gotta be agony beyond repair. Can't quite come up with a example to make it less hurtful but maybe it is.

The objective behind ANY football season is winning the SB. If you fall short, no matter where you fall short. Your team is just another bunch of asshole failures. The Jets? NEW ENGLAND? BOTH are a bunch of pathetic chumps.

You gotta get there to win it, so it's worse not getting there. Win or lose your mentality after the game is that you can get back there and win (again).

I could absolutely deal with the loss better than not getting there at all. Making it to the Superbowl would almost be enough at this point. Looking back I think in 98 team if they made it would have had the best chance of winning being they would have faced the Falcons whom they already crushed that year. In 82 we would have had a tough time with the fun bunch Redskins.

I was 12 when the Jets won in 69. Still have some good memories and have subsequently seen it again on NFL channel. Just want to see them make it again. Please! In 69 when the Mets, Knicks and Jets won I thought it would be like that forever. Little did I know there would be only two other world championships since then. Ugh!

Well let me ask you this.

In your line of work, if you aren't the most successful highest paid in the whole world, does that make you a pathetic chump?

Completely wrong and illogical analogy. First of all, if the Dept. of defense only kept the very most successful employees, they would only have one employee at a time and you won't get anything done. However, the GOAL of that shipyard is to be the very most successful shipyard at overhauling submarines. The very best in the world. Well, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has overhauled approximately 12 or 13 submarines since another shipyard beat us. We do them highly under budget, we get them done way ahead of time scale, we also have the best quality of all of the shipyards.

THAT is the goal. And it's the same at your work place. YOU are part of team that needs to be the best. Anything short of that is an absolute failure.

Come on FLgreen, you're smarter than this. This response is completely lame and splitting hairs in an effort to make your favorite team look better.

Not at all. I have argued in the past that a team that doesn't make the play offs hasn't had a successful season. It's the over reaction of "a bunch of pathetic chumps." statement.

My contention from the beginning has been, this was a very fun season, but ultimately the team didn't reach is immediate goal of reaching the play offs.

Everything doesn't have to be taken to the absolute extreme. 99% of the time the truth is some where between extreme opinions

I like it when we make the playoffs
Never mind the SB
My ultimate is a home game win for the AFC Championship , something that has evaded us ticket holders and its 45 years waiting. If I got that the SB would be the icing on the cake, win or lose.

Gotta be innit to winnit, as they say in lotto land.
Losing is tough but as a former player or coach wouldn't it be better to be able to brag you were at least IN a Super Bowl, than not to be able to say that at all?
As fans we get to taunt anyone who's team didn't get there too.
"Hey, at least the Jets MADE it to the Super Bowl. What was YOUR team doing in February, FOOL?"

A few things

1) Watching the SB played in one of my stadiums a few years back I was thinking it would be great to see the Cards in a SB one year as 1947 was a long time ago. I was wondering how long it might take them. Little did I know it was the next year.....& we lost it! But the team was not that good. Warner Fitz & Boldin got them that far against all Odds (Thanks Phil Collins for the song). But that being said the ride was great & we have become a better team as I say we crossed the line that year. Bidwell took a couple of years but out went the deadwood. We are on the good side now......but yes I do want a victory!

2) I saw SB III & I was not shocked on the Jets winning. That was a great team as was 1967. It was the greatest game ever played it changed the history & direction of the NFL. So I don't feel cheated as a Jet fan. All the Pats wins came from the Jets win. We were the Adam & Eve of todays NFL. In fact Brady is the eve of the NFL LOL.. So yes I am very hungry for a Jets SB win but I can still taste that victory I always will. I am very proud of our team.

3) The third is if I were a Buffalo fan I would feel cheated but still proud of what we did.

4) The 1911 BB Cardinals were a great team alone in first place when they saved many lives in my home state of CT during a train wreck. They were first on the scene as they were on the train. It got to them after seeing all the people without body parts etc. They fell into a season long slump. It may have cost them the WS that season. With all our great WS wins that is my favorite team. So you don't have to win it all to be great & loved. Cardinals Pride!
