LT: Ryan Clady is a serviceable option for the remainder of this season but moving forward we should move on...

LG: James Carpenter has plenty of value, would place him on the trade block now... Wesley Johnson would be an ideal option to replace Carpenter for the remainder of the season...

OC: Nick Mangold is the anchor and one of our veteran leaders on and off the field and need him, but his era is ending one or two more seasons before we need a replacement... Look to this year's draft...

RG: Brian Winters in contract year... He is likely to seek $8 M annual and the Jets aren't likely to meet anywhere close to what he will seek... He has improved enough to have value in a trade, would place him on trade block... Chris Watts looks like the answer not only financially but people were shocked when he didn't make the active roster...

RT: Ben Ijalana also will be a free agent at season's end... He is a serviceable option for the short term at right tackle but more important he is a capable backup left tackle which is hard to find a versatile option...

OT: Brandon Shell needs one maybe two more seasons before he would be a capable option... More than likely he is the future at right tackle but he lacks the hips to be a serviceable left tackle...

OT: Brent Qvale beloved by the coaches, it truly isn't fair to split drives with Ben Ijalana... He is tradeable but right now he would be well deserved to be a situational sixth o lineman... Moving forward he should be the backup right tackle...

OG: Dakota Dozier found a nitch in special teams that has him locked up with a roster spot... Like Wesley Johnson he is a capable interior backup that can spot start if need be... Long term he is not or should not be in the plans for this team...

Carpenter, Winters could land us a couple of day three selections in this upcoming draft... We have plenty of needs and the more picks the better...

Thoughts???

I would trade Sheldon Richardson straight up for La'el Collins of Cowboys. Solves a logjam for us and get back an excellent O lineman. Works for Cowboys as well, as they need front 7 help in the worst way.

first off our GM is not that creative to do a player for player trade...

and there is no way the Cowboys are going to make that move...

all honesty I wouldn't want to see that because I believe a Richardson, Williams & Wilkerson 3 down lineman could be dominate and should be the current alignment for us with McClendon being the 4th guy off the bench in situational needs...

as for our current offensive line we have good enough players that not only know this system but could continue to build continuity with each other to stabilize our up front unit...

Adding anyone mid season is not the answer... Like almost everyone here, Chris Watts deserved a spot on the active roster... The main thing for me can we do a way with either guard right now and not see a drop off with Watts and I believe yes we can with little to no drop off... If the Jets CS wants to get creative Clady-Watts-Mangold-Qvale-Ijalana starting lineup could give us a little more time for passing downs only if we are not passing every down... Keep Wesley Johnson is better served to stay as Mangold's backup...

One thing that helps the OL & the O is what the Cards did last night. The packers would do this against the big rams rush in the 60's & it has been done 1000 of times since.

Even the TV crew did not say it last night.

The cards ran the ball early & often to weaken the jets front.

Put in Powell & Hammer away at the DL of the other team. Nothing like slamming into the DL instead of pass blocking.

Now you need a D that can keep it close in the first half.

It has to become the Jets. smash mouth football.

We could use another back also LOL

Its not necessarily a 'this year' move, but a future stability move, with Collins being the RT. I agree about Watts, but as a RG with Carpenter the LG. Add Collins to that mix at RT and you have a potentially very good run blocking unit. If we are ready to move on from Clady, then perhaps Collins is the LT and Qvale is the RT. I would also consider a Richardson for a day 1 or 2 pick, and think the Cowboys would be a willing trade partner. Adding a piece like Richardson, would solidify their postseason chances.
For the Jets however, my concern with Richardson is threefold: off-field concerns, contract and logjam at DT. It's clear that Bowles is enamored with having the 3 of these players on the field at the same time, but I feel that in doing so he has disrupted the remaining 8 positions. I can't say for sure that is the biggest problem with the defense, but it seems like it to me. When players are slow to react, its usually because they aren't sure what they are supposed to do. This is year 2 for a majority of these players in Bowles' defensive scheme; I expected the opposite in their speed of play. Instead, we are seeing confusion, and what appears to be a lack of intensity. Is that because we are playing guys out of position, or quite possibly, is it the fact that Bowles is breaking-in 3/4's of the 4 LB unit with young inexperienced players? It may very well be the latter, and I will let smarter FB folks debate that. Is the LB unit what is also impacting the secondary, particularly the safeties? I've gotta believe the pieces are all inter-related, but again I would appreciate input from smarter football minds. It is pretty frustrating to watch, but fixable. I will leave the other 2 concerns for another day, but I will say that regardless of how poorly we use Richardson, he will command big $$ on the open market. That being the case, I would like to get something for him now. We cannot tie up cap $$ in one position.
