If the Jets fire Gase at this point, who would want the job? It tells every other candidate that you'll be on a ridiculously short leash if you take the job. No matter what misfortune may fall on your team, from illness to injury to suspensions from what happened to players before you even arrived, you will have zero grace time to institute a system.
A coaches #1 job is to know and understand all of his players personal capabilities...just plain incompetent on Gases part.

I think Gas wants the Job
I was not on the bandwagon to sign Gase in the first place. Give him time. Lets see what he can do when our team is healthy. If you get rid of Gase. A new coach comes in and probably signs an whole new coaching staff. We may get Maginini as D/C and Kotite as OC.
Ive seen enough of our Coach Play calling and OC! Make the DC the new Head Coach! Also seen enough of Darnold that he just cant move the ball from the 25 down field to score except a hail mary from our 20. Last GM has put us in cap mess and ALL his Draft picks STINK or average at best. Clean house! Start over till Jets gets the right QB by Drafting every year. Sick of it and the stupidity of our Jets GM. Hope new GM is better than Mike the Dart Board Drafting Champ.
Disgraceful run ORG. Embarrassment to Jets Fans and tired of seeing it run by moronic Drafts of QB since 1965 and hiring of awful bad High School level Coaches this year. No wonder Dorkfins got rid of him. No original Offensive schemes! Like watching Preseason football of my Jets.

Most season I just wish we could just get rid of everyone. Purge the whole building. Anyone who has been a part og even a small part of a season needs to go. Turn us into an expansion team. It might not work but none of this other shit works either

Hey Guys...if our JETS dont make a change RIGHT NOW by firing Gaise after having our team completely unprepared and make the D C the interm HC, it might be the erasing of any chance of Darnold being an average QB. This decision by Jets Johnsons boys needs to be swift if you want any chance to save Darnold. Ive said Darnold could be an average QB but after last night?? NOPE! Also DRAFT A QB every year till we get it right.
OK, fine. Fire Gase. Who will take the job after him? Seriously, what legitimate coach would take a job after his predecessor was fired after SIX GAMES?!? Who wants that short a leash?

Because he's already here. And he would have the "interim" tag.
At the end of the year, another job search ensues. The candidates are either guys with no HC experience, guys who got fired from their previous jobs, or guys who have been out of the game for a while. And with the Jets firing Gase like that, they might not even get the top candidate out of those ranks.
There needs to be a better answer than just always looking to fire guys.
Maybe we should see if Darnold would be better next year. After all, it would be the first time he was in the same system for two straight seasons since when? High school?

Sack, I usually agree with your posts and almost always take a measured viewpoint, but last night was egregious. I know that you were an offensive lineman, and I seem to recall that you have coached. Have you ever seen such poor preparation and the lack of adjustments to the continued use of the same blitz package ? Where were the short routes, the two tight end formations, the sight adjustments by the receivers, the automatic slides by the offensive linemen, etc.? This was as bad as the Kotite year. I fear for Darnold’s health, let alone his confidence. I know that the roster has great shortcomings, but what makes you think that Gase is the solution, rather than part of the problem?
One additional problem, of course, is the organizational structure. Douglas can’t fire Gase, even if he wanted to do so. I don’t see the Johnson’s admitting a mistake, even if they believed it to be necessary.
