It is time to fire Chan Gailey, and here's why:

Chan Gailey is up in the booth during games and there is no direct communication between Fitzpatrick or Bowles with Gailey to let him know when to dial it up or pull the reigns on his aggressive play calling... Yes they do communicate but the direct nature of having an offensive coordinator on the sidelines is key to making those in game adjustments... By the time Fitzpatrick or Bowles gets word to Gailey we are already facing 3rd and a mile... For a first time head coach he should have the ability to be in the his coordinator's ear telling him time to run the ball on 3rd & short...

Last year Gailey was successful because the game plan was new in a way... What I mean is the personnel was new to this style of football and the matchups were in our favor... But since there is a full season of tape on what Gailey is trying to do and the roster is basically the same key players it is easier for opponents to key on what we are trying to do and defend us well...

Today against Pittsburgh Gailey went the conservative route but on key short yardage plays he was dialing up intermediate passing routes when we should of lined up with a no back shotgun set showing our hand in what we were about to do rather than line up in a single back set to at least give the illusion we were going to run for a first only needing one...

I stated in the past that Gailey's system could work as long as we set the tone running the ball, as we have witnessed this short season so far the rush attack works when given the chance but he strays too quickly from it putting Fitzpatrick in bad situations...

I believe getting back to a basic ground & pound offense, yes starting Bilal Powell rotating Matt Forte in can allow us to be more of successful group to put points up, having a coordinator on the side line will see and be able to make those adjustments to allow us to take advantage of situations rather that just going by a pre drawn up script that was set in stone on Friday...

One problem.

You can't establish the run when your o-line sucks at run blocking. Forte and Powell aren't the problem. Gailey should run the ball more, but his linemen are better at pass protection.

the interior linemen are run blockers...

it is only Ijalana & Clady who are better at pass blocking...

then you have Kellen Davis a run blocking tight end... not to mention Enunwa our do it all H Back, WR who is an effective fullback...

so there is more established blockers to zone run block effectively...

G I agree but let me add two things. We do not have the team playing as a team........& for the 100th time Marshall is not great. Fitz should be "on the road again" That being said I think the Jets match up well against the Cardinals. With Revis that is!

You do realize the coaches talk on their headsets, so your communication premise is way off. The issue is injuries, play calling, execution.

Missing Decker is bad. Marshall's knee injury has lowered his production big time. This went from a dangerous receiving unit,to very pedestrian. Pittsburg wasn't afraid to protect against the run and let the corners play tight.

the coaches don't talk to each other on their headsets, the O.C. is in direct contact with the QB coach to relay to the QB...

as for TB he and Rodgers are in communication with the defensive players who have the ear piece in to direct the defense...

TB literally talks to Rodgers & Boyer on the sideline not via headsets...

the only way TB can communicate with Gailey up in the booth is by the phone on the sideline, the only measure for Fitz to talk to Gailey directly... Gailey doesn't converse directly to Fitzpatrick, that is a known fact stated by the team in previous press conferences...

As for Decker, him missing is not the biggest deal in the world... With Enunwa stepping up he was the dark horse that no one thought would emerge, but the one target that has yet to be a factor in the passing attack is veteran RB Matt Forte...

Pittsburgh runs a zone coverage, they were able to disrupt our game plan because we played right into their defense... In a zone defense they are able to stuff the run while blanket key targets, yet Marshall still had a good game even with his momentary lapses...

I disagree. Personally, I think it is time to fire Todd Bowles not that it will happen anytime soon. We'll need Chan around to name him as the interim HC.

If you want to fire people, I am all for it. God knows the CS is to blame for this crap. But I would start first with Todd Bowles. If for some reason Woody couldn't do that, then Bowles should at the very least fire Kacy Rodgers. This defense purely sucks and Darron Lee completely sucks as well.

GREAT POST gmf! Gaileys Offense stinks! Look at how many times his Offense is 3rd & long. Also Gaileys showing Defenses if its pass or run. Gailey sitting up in his skybox has lost touch with players during games & what is happening during games with players. Bowles only way to talk to Gailey is by radio & thats because Gaileys scared to face Bowles face to face with his stupid play calling. Trying to run up the middle is awful, Mangold one of my favs. just has been slipping the last 3 years & cant block a hole for RB & is slow. Time to find a new Center to split time with Mangold so he can play his best. Time to FIRE GAILEY & let a younger new Offensive Coordinator have a chance. BTW Gaileys red zone play calling is just ridiculous ,like passing 3 strait pass plays to Marshall being first & goal on the 5yd line.

Look the ravens just fired their offensive coordinator to shake things up...

Defensively we aren't as bad as most think, the team has the right mix of players but because we are loaded up front Todd Bowles a traditional 3-4 coach who has been doing it that way for a long time is trying to get our 4 defensive linemen on the field at the same time in a 4-3 defense... Kacy Rodgers has this defense playing well against the run, its our secondary that is miss firing... More so lack of communication from everyone including Revis...

To fire Rodgers would be mistake at this point in time, trying to put the players in the right position to succeed should be the goal even if it is tinkering with player's positions to do so...

On the other hand having an offensive coordinator that only knows the pass not the run is handicapping our offense... Yes this is arguably the best bunch of receivers this team has ever had but doesn't mean one abandons the running game... Even if the running game is less than effective one needs that to keep the defense honest and not dropping eight into coverage...

If you guys didn't notice there was nearly no motion in the backfield because our quarterback was in shotgun in a no back set for most of the game... In critical 3rd down and short plays it would be logical to have a running back in the backfield especially since we only need a yard or two... Showing your premise to throw the ball on those short yardage attempts is not only pathetic but is basically abandoning the run game to be cute... The Steelers weren't scared to let Fitz run because they had the edges set to defend him from escaping the pocket... Had to think any coordinator sitting up in the sky box would notice or was his head to wrapped on script play calling he was doing to give a shit...

Things need to change, now not when the team is eliminated from playoff contention in three weeks... There is a chance albeit tiny one to turn things around any GM or HC would do this even Rex did it now they are on a three game winning streak while we continue to collapse...

I agree G but with one big mistake...best group of Rec's ever on this team???

1) We don't have a TE
3) Maynard, Sauer, Powell & Turner would eat these guys for lunch. Add in Boozer, Snell & Mathis ^ it is not even close.

I guess I am the only one that sees the real Marshall LOL

we do have a tight end now (Austin Seferian-Jenkins) & we have a utility h back in Q that should give us an advantage but it is not... damn this kid is the leading receiver on the team yet he is being underused, greatly because for the loyalty Fitz has with Brandon Marshall & Eric Decker (when he ever gets on the field)... we actually have too many bodies at this position in rookie Bowman, Bostick & Davis... Keep Davis but release/waive the other two just so we can add depth either on the line or in the back field...

Matt Forte is not getting his receiving reps which made him who he is... Bilal Powell is a great every down back that is not getting the respect from our own coaching staff...

Charone Peake shows he is a heady player, while Robby Anderson just needs more touches eventually one of the these two will make an eye dropping play that could reinvigorate the offense... But unfortunately for them they are an afterthought with Fitzpatrick under center and Gailey in the skybox...

Rex Ryan fires his OC & won 3 in a row! All the fans & experts saying that the fired OC was a mistake because of past, but look at the Bills now! Offense better & Defense playing better not on the field most of the game. Bowles needs to fire Gailey now & show no ones job is safe, be a coach or Player under performing. Gaileys Offense with no TE & gadget plays got to go. What was that yesterday that Gailey had with 2 players on each side of Fitz & 1 behind him? Some College play? Goofiest looking play for a QB sack & fumble.

this is starting to remind me of Paul Hackett - a diverse playbook only he couldn't sequence the right number of plays. Jets are getting predictable and schooled in 2nd half.

it's a 2 pronged problem - Opposition makes adjustments to what Jets did well in 1st half - Jets don't make adjustments to the adjustments. Defense being so bad puts the offense in huge hole by 4th qtr and then Fitz has to throw his way back on a defense who by then is ahead and jumping predictable routes. It's an ugly cycle. Fitz is meant to manage a game - not carry team on his shoulder.

Jets are one of the worst teams in 3rd qtr - they are setting their QB up to fail in the 4th. Injuries may be the biggest cause, but that is a cheap excuse. There is still talent on the field - it's not like Fitz is being sacked 5-6 times a game. He's getting time, but Jets have too many drops and curious playcalling in spots. Combine it and you have the mess of Fitz playing from behind under circumstances he cannot succeed in. Coaching all around has been butt ugly.

as long as he stays sober on routes he will be a diamond in the rough that we hoped when we took Jace Amaro 10 picks after this kid was taken...
