Talk about splitting hairs? Isn't this just a tad disingenuous? It implies that somehow Brandon Shell is a well versed young guy ready to take the reins? The truth, however, does not go quite like that. The fact is, Shell was drafted just last season and he barely played in 2016. He got starts when the Jets were very clearly out of any sort of playoff contention. He started against every other teams border line players because the season did not matter and most of those teams knew they could beat the Jets without using starters.

Brandon Shell has proven himself in a very limited sample against sometimes less than NFL caliber competition. That's a fact. He also has not had any decent competition from any other player on the roster because the fact is, the jets really do not have much talent.

Brandon Shell starting with be 100% trial by fire. Throw him into the works and lets see if he sinks or swims.......

Yes and no Maine. Yes he only played 3 NFL games, but he also played his college career in the SEC which is a pretty stout college conference with lots of NFL caliber players. Take it for what it is, a pretty encouraging stat, not a guarantee of greatness.

The headline is using hyperbole for sure. That said, Miami was certainly playing for something last year and they have one of the most fierce defensive lines in the league. The Pats and the Bills also wanted to beat the Jets so not allowing a sack against any of them is a good thing, albeit a very small sample size. Also played against some guys who are currently or soon will be playing on Sundays.

Good stat...small sample size... hopefully he is one? of the solutions to OLine problems?
