I'm happy for him. He should have never taken the job under the condition Woody laid out. It was doomed from the start.
i'm indifferent.. i don't begrudge the guy finding work but frankly i believe at least some of the negative leaks about idzik & definitely believe he intentionally set rex up to fail..

with all due respect, talk that idzik intentionally set rex up to fail is silly. it was idzik's first (and maybe only) chance at being a GM. while he may not have made the best moves, he is not a stupid man (he has degrees from duke and dartmouth). setting rex up to fail means he sabotaged his own team and his own career out of pettiness. i can't think of one rational reason (i stress the word reasonable) to think an intelligent man would intentionally ruin his own team and his own career.

It's what the "it's everybody but WRECKS the Circus Clown ' s fault" crowd desperately wants to believe

See Offseason Transactions thread for more laughable excuses for the buffalo buffoon

book smarts & common sense are two entirely different things.. besides, idzik certainly wouldn't be the first so called "intelligent" man to cut off his nose to spite his own face.. i was giving him the benefit of the doubt.. if he didn't intentionally sabotage rex/the team last season what would his personnel & spending decisions looked like with malicious intent??

I also don't believe Idzik set Rex to fail. I just think he didn't know how to pick talent or negotiate with players. Only thing he knew how to do was cut players and get rid of contracts.

The negotiating part is debatable. I acknowledge Idzik could've addressed the CB position better (even though both injuries to Milliner and McDougle couldn't have been predicted by ANYONE, no matter what they choose to believe). But how good does the Mike Wallace deal look right now for Miami? They chose to flash the money at a sexy FA WR that many around here were slobbering all over, and now they are looking for creative ways to dump the diva who doesn't play well with others, and got way too much money.

See, so it cuts both ways. Sometimes NOT spending on a player is smart football.

Sometimes not spending on A player is smart football, not spending on ALL players is not.

:) True. he didn't even resign his own players...like Howard and Wilkerson despite $50+ in cap space. Then we watch Gia get beat like a school girl weekly at RT.

Mike Wallace is a bad example because he's playing with a bad QB. Mike Wallace is a deep threat playing with a guy with Tebow passing accuracy when throwing down field (Tannehill, Bridgewater, and Geno had the worst comp % on throws over 5 yards last season). Almost all Wallace's routes are over 5 yards...

well he failed at his job and got fired. pretty simple.

not sure why some need to assign nefarious intentions to it in that he intentionally set rex up to fail. of course, i'm not so sure he expected both milliner (high ankle sprain after landing on another player) and mcdougle (non-contact torn ACL from the proverbial turf monster) to both come down with serious injuries in the first day of camp. but nevertheless, he didn't properly stock the roster and paid for the results by losing his job.

there were more then a few articles written & spoken of by the media that idzik was intentionally trying to get ryan fired.. & supposedly rex himself thought the same thing or at least he was rumored to.. how valid these reports were is anyones guess but i didn't just make them up.. i read & heard them first hand..

how many of these articles were from hacks like manisha mehta? do you have any of them to share, since i'm quite dubious any real journalist would run with such garbage.

Bottom line is he was in over his head or incompetent. Like matt Millen was. Ray handley Rich Kotite Bill delasho. Barack Obama. Its not more complicated than that

well you said you read stories. that's hardly concrete evidence. i mean any idiot with access to the internet could write a story. and given a number of these idiots are considered jets beat writers (especially the driveling buffoon who covers the team for the daily news), i was wondering if you would be able to share your evidence.

i've done a quick google search of "john idzik sabatoged rex ryan" and so far the best i can come up with is an opinion piece from someone at rant sports, something from stephen a smith, something on a website called minor league madhouse, and various message board postings. looking under "did john idzik set up rex ryan to fail" you have a number of articles from writers that probably were ghost-written by rex and/or his agent where "sources" say rex "knows he's being set up to fail".

i'm a long-time rex fan and still think he can be a good coach. i'm not looking to bash him. but pardon me for remaining dubious about these claims that idzik set rex up to fail.

i remember (i believe) freddie colman of ESPN radio also making the claim idzik was trying to get ryan fired.. BTW whatever your thoughts on mehta are (i'm not a fan) he is in fact officially a NY jets beat writer.. so yes, at least one mainstream media outlet made the claim idzik was indeed trying to get rex fired.. that's not just my opinion..

if you want to use manish mehta for the basis of your assertions on this board, all the power to you...
