Jace Amaro calls out Rex Ryan and the former regime/Rex responds

i never bought the bulletin board material crap. i didn't buy it when critics said rex's comments (as the jets coach) would give the opponent bulletin board material, and i don't buy it now with thinking the bills will use amaro's comments to fire them up. these are professional athletes that want to beat the other team. they don't need bulletin board material to get them fired up. it's all a fun sideshow, and imo, has zero impact on the actual games on the field.

I agree anyway the athletes are to busy with their smart phones or listening to their beats headphones or injecting steroids in their buttocks it is a new NFL world not like when namath played.

I was responding to how these comments/rebuttal by Rex will deter the Bills from their focus. It won't. Same like you think these comments will not deter Amaro's focus.

I'm not insulting the new coaching staff in any way. The staff could only do so much, the rest is up to the player. I'm not sold on Amaro being anything better than a solid contributor on offense. Not sure how a staff could really help a player that has focusing issues. Can they? Amaro is a good player but something is off about him. He makes the difficult plays but loses concentration on the easy plays. Having said all that, Amaro is probably the best tight end we've had in god knows how long. I am not looking for an upgrade here.

And yes, I do like Rex. I think he's a good coach but it was time to move on. I hope he fails with the Bills but people here and everywhere put the blame solely on him for us being such a crappy team the last few years. Rex has shown that with a good team, he can have success. Give him the horses he needs and he can do something. I think the Bills are all in with him. The Jets the last few years were god awful personnel wise. When he had good players, he coached well.

Having said that, Rex needs to stay away from picking his players. He is responsible just as much as Tanny/Idzik for the Jets having awful players. He got rid of Cotchery for Derrick Mason, agreed on the Tebow trade, etc.

Fair arguments throughout. I know you were not insulting the coaching staff, but it could be inferred that way, if you worry about Amaro being distracted by Rex's bloviating. It would suggest Bowles has no more control than Rex did.

I do think these comments effect the players more than they will effect Rex. The player will want to go out there and prove his old coach wrong and show them up. These comments will be in the back of his mind. Not sure how Bowles can have any control over that.

Perhaps, but we've seen Rex thrown off his game at times. And I'm not sure if Rex's comments would distract Amaro or motivate him. I think the two sides negate, and he will be the same guy he is in the other 14 games.

True! Can't wait to find out. If this does effect him in any way Amaro shouldn't be in the NFL. I just can't wait for the season to start so we can stop talking about this BS and start analyzing the games.

Can't wait!

It's going to be an interesting season in the division, that is for sure. All sorts of links, rivalries, teams with the potential of competing or collapsing.

I really don't see this motivating anyone to do anything. The season doesn't start for several months, I doubt anyone will be able to maintain any juice from this comment long enough to get motivated in an actual game.

"Hey, guys! Remember, back in April, when Jace Amaro implied, without using his name, that Rex was lenient about player lateness? Let's get 'em for that!" I mean, it's not exactly Patton's speech, is it?

Rex's faults have always been that he is arrogant, he is brash, and he loves attention. These qualities actually play pretty well in New York, but to be able to act the way he did, you have to win. People don't give loud, arrogant people the benefit of the doubt, and they relish it when they fail. Rex may not understand this, but most people inherently do. Acting the way that he did ensured that people would call him out whenever the Jets didn't live up to his bold proclamations.

And nothing has changed, clearly. I honestly can't imagine any other coach in the league responding to Amaro, much less responding the way that Rex did. It seems like a case of "the lady doth protest too much." The problem with Rex isn't his flaws, per se, it is his arrogance in thinking that he doesn't have any flaws, or that he can just ignore those flaws, because his skills are so amazing that the flaws don't even matter.

My cousin is a Bills fan (although he lives in Florida, which is weird) and he was pretty excited that they signed Rex, and I told him: "you're gonna get a good defense, overall, but one that blitzes a lot and gives up a lot of third and longs, and you will have a ridiculous number of 12 men on the field penalties. You'll have a coach that knows nothing about offense, and doesn't care to learn. You'll love his attitude, but everyone else will hate it. The players will love him, but it is because he runs a loose ship. He's got a positive attitude about his players, but is so positive in his praise for everyone that praise from him ceases to mean anything. He can't keep his mouth shut, but he is usually pretty entertaining. He cares about winning, a lot, he will even cry if he thinks the team didn't make the playoffs, but he has an ego that can sometimes lead him to do things that don't help the team win."

Curious where your cousin in Florida lives. One of my best friend's from college lives in Florida and is a bills fan.

Honestly, I have a lot of family down there, and they're always moving around, so I'm not totally sure, but I believe he lived in Ft Pierce/Port St Lucie area.

JMO but I think Rex was going to have his team pumped to the max and ready to play the Jets balls to the walls before Amaro opened his mouth. I don't think anything he said will make a difference.

Agreed...half the guys played together in one way or another in college, in all star games, at football camps, or know each other personally off the field. They want to beat the guy across from them regardless so they look good on tape so they get bigger contracts and/or keep their jobs. I think it has no impact on the outcome of games. Whoever executes better as a unit wins, regardless of the words that come out their mouths before, during, or after the games...

Just like everyone lost their minds when Cromartie had some choice words for Brady prior to the divisional round playoff game. They said we'd get blown out.

Also funny how Rex went after rookie TE & not D. Davis, Mangold or Decker, all of whom called out team's preparation & accountability #Jets

Joe Caporoso @TurnOnTheJets · 8h8 hours ago

Joe Caporoso retweeted Paul Bruzzese ll
Yup, Rex was silent about him too
Joe Caporoso added,
Paul Bruzzese ll @Paulie_Bruz@TurnOnTheJets don't forget Wilkerson

Corey Griffin @CoreyGriffinNBC · 19h19 hours ago

Whatever Rex wants to say, Jets weren't accountable to themselves or coaches last year. Wilkerson said it. Davis said it. Pryor admitted it.

Joe Caporoso @TurnOnTheJets · 8h8 hours ago

Losing 10 of 27 games by 20 points or more for a #NFL team is a joke, trying to pass all accountability off on that is even sillier

Joe Caporoso @TurnOnTheJets · 8h8 hours ago

Rex#zzzzz http://turnonthejets.com/2014/10/sorting-mess-thoughts-1-5-new-york-jets/ … Post NE playoff win: 26-38, 2 GMs, 3 OCs, 2 DCs, 3 QBs...always the victim though
