Jamal Adams to sit out of voluntary program

Adam Schefter, I believe, broke this.

Now, I love Adams' game. He is an electrifying force in all aspects of the defense. However, he wants to be a leader, and this is not something leaders do with two years left on their contract. It's not a formal holdout, but it is a refusal to participate in team activities, voluntary or not.

Between this and the fact that a huge payday for him would be overpaying for the position, I think the time may be coming where the Jets have to decide it's worth dealing him. He would get a big haul. His value isn't going to increase from here, it will only decrease.

So now is the time the Jets have to decide. Yes, the team has two more years of control over him, not counting tagging him. But he wants the extension, he could become an outspoken problem if he doesn't get it, and his position might not merit the money he wants. So the time has come to choose - do the Jets pay him, or do they deal him?

Bad timing on Adams’ part. Joe wants to focus on the draft, and with all of the other distractions facing everyone, Adams and his agent are not being fair at all. I’m disappointed, and I think less of Jamal today , than I did yesterday. If he doesn’t budge from his current position, as much as I’ve valued Adams’ leadership and player skills, he should think twice about his ‘ my way or the highway ‘ stance to a Jet club that has in the past been fair and honest. This is a stab in the back as far as I’m concerned, especially since there was plenty of time after this critical juncture , to talk.

So Ja-ME is again showing his true color: green, as in money, not the Jets. I am so tired of his act. I guess that Douglas should have spent time haggling with Jamal’s agent instead of preparing for free agency and the draft. What a selfish baby, this self-proclaimed team leader is.

Yes, this off-season activity is voluntary. Let’s see how many other players on the team opt out.

Adams is one of the top 2-3 box safeties in the league, maybe even the best. However, his position is the LEAST important position on the field. I’d rather have the 20th best cornerback. If we can get Dallas’ 1st pick and a third, or maybe even a fourth round pick, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, JaMe!

One other point. Has Adams noticed what is going on in the country, particularly in this area? How insensitive can a person be? THIS is the time to bring up an extension? THIS is the time to complain about being disrespected?

Just my two cents, but does Dallas have the cap flexibility to sign Adams if and when they make the trade? They've got people to pay, primarily Prescott who has already turned down $33M. Curious what y'all think.

How true, look at the news JaMEl, get off Twitter. New Yorkers, your fans, are dying by the thousands, over 22 million people have lost their jobs/businesses over the last month in this country. No one is going to cry over a multimillionaire, complaining he needs more money, for playing a game.
There is a time and place for it, it’s just not now. Not with what’s going on in the world and especially the tristate area, your fans.

My biggest problem with this is the timing and the message it sends to the locker room. He could have sat out and not made a PR stink about it, if he did in fact do that on Twitter or somewhere else. It could have been his agent too. This comes off as very tone deaf and self-centered right now.

Look, I like Adams a lot. He's a great player - best player we've had since Revis IMHO. If he continues on his current trajectory he could have a HOF career. And he's a guy I would love to keep. But if the Jets can get a big haul for him, a 1st and 2nd for example, it would be hard to pass that up. If the Jets sent Adams and 3rd to the 49ers for example for their 2 first round picks, I would do it. But it would have to be a big haul.
