Gary Meyers is up there with Mehta as the worst Jet beater writer ever. He is perpetually trying to create controversy where none exists. Over the years, he has actually been effective at doing just that. But he's not a trustworthy source of any information. At this point, he's just trying to stay even remotely relevant - and he's not. Neither is Mehta.
Jamal Adams is a safety that plays corner and linebacker, some are dual options he plays all over the field is he worth the price tag, the simple answer is yes, is he Revis, no but his ability is unmatched and brings an intensity that the defense feeds off of... Players play above their skill level with him on the field, and that is what we want from our team...
adams barely lines up outside of the box & now not only does he play in space, he plays a bit of corner as well??
not necessarily buying he raises his defensive teammates either.. & if so with what?? his theatrics??
His very presence on the field makes it easier for the rest of the defense to function at a higher level of success. Opponents HAVE TO scheme for him. They HAVE TO account for him on every play. Yes...........he's a box safety, but in reality he's much more. He's a nightmare for all of our opponents because of his athleticism and veritality. I have heard many coaches say that he is their biggest problem when they face the Jets. When you have a player on your team that has that effect on your opponents you do your best to keep him and add more players just like him. You don't trade a sure thing for a couple of might be good guys just because they play in a position of need because the odds are very high that what you wind up with is 3 so-so guys that get you nowhere towards your goal of having a playoff or Superbowl winning team. Is he worth what he's asking from the Jets ? I don't know. Mostly because I'm not sure what he's asking. Even so, if the Jets do give him a lucrative contract to keep him he wouldn't be the first safety in the NFL to get a big paycheck and that is probably what he's basing his demands on. This is, of course, just my humble and probably low valued opinion, having been a fan since day one. I do think that waiting til next season to do the extension is the most prudent thing for the Jets to do. Getting the extension in the third year is not the normal thing for teams to do.

Two years ago I thought he was greatly overrated. I thought that he was average in coverage and only so-so in open field tackling, often taking poor angles. Could he blow someone up who caught a short pass and whose back was turned? Absolutely, but so can any box safety. He also was guilty on several occasions of getting caught out of position while trying to make hero plays. I remember posting about this after he said post-game, that “someone” missed an assignment. That someone was HIM, but he didn’t own it. That is NOT leadership.
Last year I thought that he did play quite well. But he’s still a box safety.
One absurd point being made by his supporters is that other players want to know that star players get taken care of. However, there is a hard cap, so every dollar that is spent on Adams cannot be spent on those other players, so the rest of the roster doesn’t care about that???
Finally, I don’t recall the exact numbers, but I heard on the radio this weekend that only 16 of 223 first round picks got extended at this point under the current collective bargaining agreement. Most of the huge stars have not.
