I think it would depend on if bowles think sheldon is mature enough whether or not they dangle mo in a trade scenario. Sheldon obv has more upside but mo is steady and is at his peak right now. In a perfect world you keep sheldon and he becomes the next reggie white (yes he has that kind of talent) and you trade mo for a ton. However humans are not perfect and if sheldon is not mature enough to be mo or better then it could be a huge loss. It is all going to come down to what the football minds running the franchise think.
I don't disagree, but Jets also have the luxury and perhaps the leverage of Leonard Williams who I think has a better opportunity of being the next Reggie White than Sheldon. Sheldon reminds me more of another Eagle, the deceased Jerome Brown, an excellent DT in his own right.

so i know this would be getting way ahead of ourselves, but let's say we tag mo and end up keeping him for the year... does anyone know what our cap situation is looking like the following year? maybe we can tag him this year and finally sign him next?

i know there are a ton of variables, but would it be within reason to consider it?

Without a doubt, it should be a consideration.

no guarantees we can extend him this year or next. giving him the tag doesn't give us the ability to sign him if he already has one foot out the door. if the compromise on salary is not far off then yeah it makes sense but what I heard they are a couple of million annually off in negotiations. tag him, and try to work on a solution this off season or if the front office feels he is too stern with his number come days before the draft trade him for a 1st this year and conditional 3rd next year on production could either be one of three picks a 3rd, a 2nd or a 1st. teams that could covet him and willing to give up this type of a trade would be Oakland, Dallas, Bears, Philly, not to mention in rival division teams like the Bills or Dolphins.

current cap number prior to any real free agency transactions is roughly $144 million with a reported cap of $155 million. next year this time without any new additions or subtractions would be $126 million. the following year the cap can really open up with the removal of Darrelle Revis' contract which will be all salary no guarantees. so there are plenty of options on how GM Maccagnan can work the numbers with the flexible next few years are.

He's starting calibre but he was dreadful last year. Better to cut bait a year too early at that price.
Brick is definitely a below average LT at this point in his career. Unless he takes a cut, I can't see him sticking around.

A great Jet but better gone a year early than a year late.

Brick was dreadful last season? That's news to me. Pass protection was pretty solid overall by the line. Brick was steady. Look, I have no objections to getting some youth in, like Conklin, Decker, or another talented replacement for Brick. But I think some fans are assuming there's going to be a cheaper and equally good player just waiting in the wings. I don't see it. Now, if Brick won't take a significant paycut, then my position changes. But I think he will be willing to see the forest for the trees here.

Yeah , Pff had Brick rated horribly, but I don't agree. He was not great, but he did not stick out like a sore thumb. I do think it's an offseason priority to acquire our LT of the future

They've had what? Two full seasons now to get something done? If it hasn't happened already it isn't going to, not after two seasons of disagreements. I thought about this long and hard and I believe this makes the most sense as much as I hate to part with Mo. He's an excellent player and a guy you can build a defense around. Getting something for him now before he leaves and the Jets get nothing in return is the best approach.

I agree MJ Mac had 50 million when he took over and couldn't get a deal with Mo done.. Mo must think he's Watt plus with what he wants..LOL

Mo is pretty damn awesome. He's also a hard worker and great teammate. I really want to keep him, that being said, not giving him Watt money lol, or anything close!

I guess my point is this. If he won't take a significant cut, he has to go.
If we are sitting around counting the pennies that Mo will or will not get, you can't be afraid to drop a vastly overpaid player like D'Brick at this point in his career.

Was just looking on 247Jets, it claims that the Giants are offering the Jets their 1st this season (10th overall) and their 2nd in 2017 and their 2nd in 2018. If there's any truth to that, I say TAKE IT and run. By my way of thinking it's better than nothing and if the Jets front office waits too long, they will get NOTHING for him.

Either a pair of 2nds or an actual 1st, but not all 3.
That's blatantly stoopit to the point of only being possible on the interweebz.

I didn't say it was accurate or a reliable source. That's why I didn't post the link. Take it for what it's worth.

But I do mean if there's any truth to that, they should take it and run before they get caught for stealing.

LMFAO, they'd be hung after the fact anyway.
No other club is going to let Felony Grand Larceny go unrewarded.

Brandon Marshall for a 5th is damn near felony grand larceny, no?

Touché - almost.
There were 9M reasons, but yeah, definitely one of the best deals done in some time - right up there with BAL getting Dumervil because of a fax machine snafu.

No way in hell. The Giants don't make those kinds of trades. They have tons of cap room, in a defensive front heavy draft.

Actually the tag this year hurts us next year. It would mean next year we would have to tag him at 19 million, that would kill any leverage in negotiations, plus there's the angle that we're gambling on him returning from his leg injury unscathed. If he sucks next year were left with no trade value, or resigning a declining player. It depends if macc is considering the best possible outcome, or hedging against the lowest bottom. Maybe we lose a hall of famer for picks, but at least we didn't get stuck empty handed. It's something we'll have to wait and see.

Franchising snacks would be a gigantic mistake, he would get around 14 million. He's a 2 down nose tackle, for 2 mill more we could franchise mo who is much more valuable.

As I've said, this is a big off season for Mac. He's going to come out looking foolish, or becoming a legend. I don't think there's any middle ground this year.

If Jared Goff gets by Dallas at #4 ....

Maybe we can package Wilkerson and the 20th Pick to Jacksonville (5) or Baltimore (6) to move up for Goff?

Either spot puts us ahead of the 49ers at 7, where they would definitely take Goff if he fell that far.

And both teams, Jax and Balt, have big needs on their D-lines, and neither wants to draft a QB.

Goff is worth that in your opinion?
