The Jets have acquired wide receiver KD Cannon on waivers from the San Francisco 49ers and have waived WR Deshon Foxx.

Cannon (5'11", 182) was signed by San Francisco as an undrafted free agent last week and was waived on Sunday.

Cannon had his best season with Baylor as a true junior last year when he caught 87 passes for 1,215 yards and 13 touchdowns, all career highs, and was named All-Big 12 first team.

As a freshman, he set six Baylor records as he caught 58 passes for 1,030 yards and eight touchdowns, most of them from current Jets quarterback Bryce Petty in his last year running the Bears' offense.

In his three seasons at Baylor, Cannon had 195 receptions for 3,113 yards (16.0 yards/catch) and 27 TDs and was named All-Big 12 three times.

He ran a 4.41-second 40 at the NFL Combine workouts, the fourth-best time among wide receivers and tied for the 11th-best time among all Combine participants.

Foxx was signed by the Jets in January to a reserve/future contract after spending time on the Seattle Seahawks' offseason and practice-squad rosters in 2015-16.

This is a raw kid with a lot of talent. If he puts his head in to learning his craft he will be a solid #4 WR with ST ability.Who knows what his ceiling will be? I have no clue but worth the look he's getting.

Plus, I'll bet Petty will look a lot better in practices because he'll be throwing to a receiver with whom he is familiar. And vice versa.

you have to wonder if that was the git here, get someone to give Petty some comfort-ability to continue his development... right now we all hope that Hackenberg is the guy what if they are still hoping that Petty can be that guy, just saying...

I think they want Hack to be the guy..... But are gonna do everything they can to put both in a position to be successful.

no what I am saying if Hack isn't ready to build up Petty's confidence with someone familiar from college could do just that... I do believe they hope Hack is the guy but he may not be ready this year at worst he would be the backup... if anything like it was said somewhere on this forum we could see Hack mid season (week 6 - ish)... Until then have to believe they want Petty over McCown but will turn to McCown if 1) Hackenberg isn't ready to take the job... 2) Petty does just enough to keep from then handing over the job to McCown for the start of the season...

yeah, well, i wasn't happy at all with the way gailey/bowles handled petty in training camp/preseason/regular season last year.. hopefully both kids get a legitimate shot in '17 to be our long term starter..

I wasn't either. Petty clearly beat out Geno for the backup position and never should have been in the spot to get hurt in that final preseason game.

completely agree!!

how about after petty played great against the redskins in preseason & then bowles gave smith most of petty's snaps the next week of practice..that also really pissed me off..

Yep.. This preseason I want to see Petty and Hack get the bulk of the snaps in games 1 and 2.... Adjust the snap count based on who is having the better performance game day... If both are playing well split Game 3 evenly and make the decision after Game 3 on who will be the opening day starter. If one has and an advantage over the other give him the bulk in game 3 as usual and if progress is continuing name him the starter..

Now if all training camp and after games 1 and 2 neither are looking like the guy that's where you start making sure McCown is ready to be the day 1 starter but with still the eye on developing both Hack and Petty...
