So far there is three identified quarterbacks the New York Jets have been noted in chatting up:

  1. Jared Goff, California
  2. Carson Wentz, N. Dakota State
  3. Paxton Lynch, Memphis

Jets also are noted to met with Dak Prescott back at the Senior Bowl, so they are showing interest but are they really in the market?

The Jets hope to re-sign quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who can become a free agent in the next two weeks. But Fitzpatrick will be 34 before the end of the 2016 season. And while he led the Jets to 10 wins last season, he does not appear to be the franchise's long-term answer.

NFL teams typically cast a wide net with their meetings with players at the combine. It's all part of a pre-draft evaluation process to determine whether a player might be a fit, and not necessarily an indication of what teams plan to do on draft weekend.

General manager Mike Maccagnan has said he subscribes to the notion of drafting and developing quarterbacks.

"I'm not necessarily going to say I'm going to go out and draft one every year, but the thought process, when you really drill down on it, was it's such an important position, you do take them, but you also take them with the idea of developing them,"

Maccagnan told WFAN's Mike Francesa in an interview last month.

At the same time, Maccagnan has made it clear he's not going to reach to draft a quarterback just to draft a quarterback.

Would love it if a guy like Paxton Lynch fell to 20. Although it may not matter, I figure the Jets are going to have to tag and trade Mo. If they do they'll likely have an additional 1st round draft choice probably higher than 20.

It would be an absolute coup if we had two 1st rounders and managed to get Lynch and Jack Conklin in the 1st round. I think that vastly improve our offense now and in the future.
