Antonio Garcia was a 3rd round pick of NE who was placed on the non-football injury list and then released after some blood clots were discovered in his lungs. He’s cleared to play now. NE supposedly had high hopes for him.

Also, Jets looking at T/G Byron Bell who has 74 career starts for Carolina, Tenn, and Dallas.

Draft Analysis: Consistently playing below 300 pounds, his lanky frame is the first thing that gets noticed. But his positive attributes show up on tape more than his weaknesses. Mass and functional strength are concerns and he still needs plenty of technical work.

The Jets have acquired tackle Antonio Garcia on waivers via New England and have waived kicker Nick Rose.

The Patriots traded up to take Garcia in the third round (No. 85 overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He didn't play at all last preseason as he battled blood clots in his lungs and was placed on the Pats' Reserve/Non-Football Injury list in September.

In March, Garcia told New England media he was cleared to return to football, and in April it was reported he would be a part of the Patriots' left tackle competition following Nate Solder's departure for the Giants. However, the Patriots waived him last week.

Garcia (6'6", 302) made 42 starts at left tackle for Troy, earning All-Sun Belt first-team honors after a senior season in which he wasn't charged with allowing a sack.

Garcia might end up being an upgrade at RT, honestly. Bell will provide some veteran depth at the guard spots, but Garcia appeals to me more. This could be a legitimate OL upgrade.

His scouting report reads more like a LT than a RT. Tall, athletic ex-hoops player with excellent feet, etc. Maybe a nice guy to put on the shelf for a year and let develop both his technique and functional strength. Solid, low cost move.

Garcia is a starting quality LT. He was penciled on as starter before the blood clots. MAJOR risk for a football player. Tends to recur. If he's healthy, big steal

That's probably true. He is a bit longer, more athletic, so the transition to RT might not be the right move.

I believe it's a good addition. If healthy he adds depth, at least, at one of our weakest positions and could possibly wind up being that guy. We need to protect whoever is under center and it starts at left tackle.
