Mac knows he has an unusual situation on his hands. While the team played well last year and was on the cusp of making the playoffs and possibly a playoff run, he knows the team is full of older, costly players who will need to be replaced in the not too distant future. With that in mind, Mac goes on a trading frenzy on draft day. Mo is sent to the Titans for #33, #76 and #140. That's a total of 825 value points or #20 or so in the first round. Then on draft day, with Lynch and Hackenberg sitting there at 20 and Cleveland concerned about the Chiefs and Broncos ahead of them, Mac sends the pick to the Brownies for #32, #65 and #141 for a net gain of 35 points.
The draft then plays out thusly:
#32 (Cle) - Jason Spriggs, OT
#33(Ten) - William Jackson, CB
#51 - Kyler Mackrell, LB
#65 (Cle) - Jeremy Cash, S
#76 (Ten) - Connor Cook, QB
#83 - Shon Coleman, OT
#118 - Graham Glasgow, C
#140 (Ten) - Jerell Adams, TE
#141 (Cle) - Devontae Booker, RB
In one draft, Mac replenishes the roster with younger, faster, and cheaper players. Yes, he double dips at OT and finally drafts Thor's replacement. If Spriggs and Coleman both work out the T position goes from weakness to strength. This draft nets six 2017/8 starters and allows Mac the leverage of going after WR, LB and RB during free agency and the 2017 draft.
