i don't think we go anywhere near JPP. Coples should stay in my opinion. Still young and on his rookie deal.

Why not? Why can't we have a pass rusher opposite Coples? Is that not allowed? Remember, Rex is gone. Having a bona fide pass rusher is actually encouraged by most of the league. Besides that, what the hell has Coples done to merit not getting help? He has been nothing short of being a bust. He disappears most of every game. Trust me, this new regime has no allegiance to him and will likely not give him a qualifying offer as reported.

I think it's one of the biggest needs on the team. Edge rusher. Haven't had one for nearly a decade. The Giants have had half a dozen or more in that span.

Why release Pace and Babin if they have no replacements set and stone for them yet. RB's are a dime a dozen and easier to replace, LB's not so much. This was just a simple decision the Jets had to made since these players bonuses are due during a certain time.

Both Babin and Pace are the same age 34, signing them now does not mean they will make the final roster. Better to have a backup plan in place in case they can't get LB's during Fa or the Draft. Pace actually was more productive than Babin. Pace had 5 sacks and Babin had 2 sacks, Both are good mentors until the Jets have a solid replacement in mind.

These moves may suggest a couple things:

1. Commitment to bringing in Spiller to pair with Ivory and Powell, and
2. It is more likely the Jets address OLB with a draft pick than make a big splash with Justin Houston.

If the Jets don't go OLB hard in free agency, they may go harder at WR and/or CB. These moves may indicate far more than a desire to see what Pace and Babin have left in the tank.

Powell is a free agent, I believe.
Babin and pace still don't have gauranteed money, so this is a technicality. Personally I really think Babin should have been released. He plays stupid, remember his late hits on qb's ? He's done.

CJ Spiller will definetly be a Jet with this move. Especially the rumor that he loved playing under Gailey. We all know the Jets will spend and spend big this off season.

On the olb situation, Cimini had this today in his sunday notes.

2. Oldies, but goodies: I wouldn't read too much into the decision to exercise the options for graybeard outside linebackers Jason Babin and Calvin Pace. Their option bonuses were only $250,000 apiece, meaning this doesn't preclude the Jets from releasing one or both before the start of the season. If anything, maybe it's an indication they're not planning to spend big money in free agency at the position, knowing there are intriguing edge rushers that could be available with the sixth pick in the draft. Basically, Babin and Pace, both 34, are low-cost insurance. Their non-guaranteed base salaries are $1.35 million and $2.125 million, respectively.

I think with babin & Pace its more of a security plan than anything. Just incase if Mac can't get the Likes of a Justin Houston or a big time pass rusher in the draft.
I honestly feel by releasing CJ2K, Mac feels very confident that Spiler will sign here.

I love how everyone thinks having the bills old coach, qb,running back puts us in a good position. Like replicating the 2008-10 bills is something to strive for.

Think about it this way. The 2000 Rams traded for a RB named Marshall Faulk away from a garbage Indianapolis Colts team and succeeded. Maybe the same fortunes can occur with us. The best part is that we dont have to give up picks.

Spiller would be an ideal fit here.

I honestly feel with Spiller in the fold, adding an ideal true #1 WR possibly in Maclin, acquiring a veteran QB (Bradford) and solidifying this O-Line, this offfense will wreck havok this season.

(Of course i hope the Jets draft a QB as well to groom)

To me that sounds like Rex or MartyM making excuses for not playing Johnson. Both of them not having the stones to tell him straight out that he wasn't the same player as they thought they were getting.
