Jets fans should petition the NFL

Every year, same as it ever was....same as it ever was.

Maybe there's strength in numbers. Perhaps if Jet fans petitioned the NFL to persuade the Johnsons to sell this team to intelligent ownership, perhaps our fortunes would change. Someone brought up a cool point, imagine if the Jets were owned by the fans (I believe the Green Bay Packers are such a franchise)

I've always liked the idea of the Jets being owned by the fans. However I read somewhere that it is against NFL rules and Green Bay has an exemption. If any Packer backers are reading this, it would be interesting to know how they avoid fan short-termism, as if the Jets were controlled by the fans we would be sacking the HC and GM every four games or so.

The fans don't actually own the Green Bay Packers.
The team was set up as a non profit organization in 1923 prior to the ownership rules being drafted in 1960 so they are Grandfathered in.
Shareholders have no say in the running of the franchise or any football decisions They do get to vote for the executive board that represents the Packers at league meetings. Shares have been offered 5 times since 1923.
Shares are $250 each, but the stock pays no dividends and isn’t tradeable or saleable. It's actually a big scam. You get a souvenir share and the right to buy overpriced share holder tagged merchandise. There is also a rule prohibiting "owners" from bad mouthing the team and /the league and your share can be revoked. Think it's safe to say Jet fans would lose their shares in short order.......

As the years go by, I care less and less about the Johnsons and the overall workings of the team. The team is worth at least a billion dollars so those idiots are going NOWHERE. They sit there counting their money and ridiculing fans who believe these efforts will be impactful. They won't.

I still want the Jets to do well, but I'm no longer invested to the point of taking part in a protest. I was a fan who every year bought (and always wore) the merchandise for me and my family. The last five years or so, I stopped doing this, too. Guess that's my small way of showing my disproval. Won't change anything, but makes me feel better as I watch another in the endless string of team debacles and lost seasons.

Like I mentioned before any person or organization would find it an uphill battle to pry one of the Johnsons' biggest tax write-offs away from them.

The annual hundreds of millions check from the NFL TV rights is a pretty good inducement to stay pat, too.
