Jets’ free agent targets: CB Richard Sherman

The Jets have been looking to find cornerbacks for years as free agent signings like Pierre Desir and Trumaine Johnson just haven’t worked out. Adding a future Hall-of-Famer like Richard Sherman would be a huge move to both strengthen the secondary in the short term while also providing a valuable veteran mentor to the team’s young cornerbacks.

This wouldn’t seem like a good fit on paper but the 32-year old Sherman has a strong relationship with Saleh and could follow his former defensive coordinator to New York. Sherman would start immediately for the Jets and could help be a teacher on the field as the new coaching staff installs Saleh’s preferred defensive schemes.

The organization is also in need of a culture change and bringing in a winner like Sherman is a significant aid in that process. The Jets would likely prefer to keep this to a short-term contract in order to buy themselves time to find long-term answers at the position.

Sherman is at the stage of his career he can convert to safety... Marcus Maye will likely be the free safety... Sherman could play the strong safety and be more of that run defender while still giving us coverage even though he is known for not having that long speed which he never had...

This is actually a false statement bandied around because of the Jets poor record the last few years .

The Jets defensive line right now is solid and IMHO, an Edge rusher short of being elite . The linebacking core is solid when you put Mosley on the field back in the middle . The secondary needs some help but has players with potential if Maye is back in the middle . *** 2 additions .

The offensive line is solid but could use an upgrade at RT and LG . Definitely could use an upgrade at RB and at WR . Adding a pass catching TE wouldn't hurt either . If i was the Decision maker i would use this draft to work exclusively on the offensive side of the ball unless a defensive player happens to fall in our lap that we can't so no too . Once a decision is made about the starting QB, we can discuss that situation

The special teams don't need addressing .
