Douglas has made it clear that one of his top priorities as the Jets’ GM is to rebuild the team’s offensive line. The unit decayed to a disastrous state in 2019 as a result of years of neglect, leaving Douglas to begin the overhaul by signing a litany of free agents and drafting left tackle Mekhi Becton in the first round.

The unit was better but could use some upgrades on the interior, where Alex Lewis, Greg Van Roten and waiver claim Pat Elflein left plenty to be desired. The biggest upgrade on the free agent market would be Thuney, who New England surprisingly used the franchise tag on a year ago.

The move certainly took the Jets by surprise, who were reportedly planning to offer Thuney a huge deal in free agency before the Patriots tagged him. Assuming New England doesn’t tag him for a second time Thuney should be free to take the Jets’ millions to help add another huge building block to the offensive line.

Douglas has acknowledged that it will be a multi-year project to rebuild the Jets’ offensive line, with Becton and center Connor McGovern being the first building blocks. Adding Thuney to the interior would fill another major hole for the long term.

I strongly disagree with that, I think Elflein played quite well for the Jets.

He still has a lot to offer

But for me I also rather go with Pat Elflein & Alex Lewis as the starting guards...

An upgrade at guard should be on the docket . An upgrade at RB should be on the docket . An upgrade at TE should be on the docket . An edge rusher should be on the docket . If we move down just a little from the 2nd overall pick, we can make all these upgrades in this coming draft .

most lineman that leave the cheatahs never live up to there former play. I give the credit to Scarnechia who retired for the second time last year. not sure I trust a former cheatah to play great on another team. especially ours

thats why I believe in Joe Douglas he gave Alex Lewis a chance and he paid dividends until he got into it with Gase and Douglas put him on the shelf to protect him for the future...

brought in Pat Elflein and he didn't disappoint expect them to re-sign PE this off season meaning there is no need for Joe Thuney nor even Brandon Scherff... Our Guards are good enough, not to mention we still have Cameron Clark to figure into the picture...

No more re-treads. Draft them young and let them grow together. This has been a successful formula for years. They have a foundation and need to add some pieces. If they don't trade those 1st rounders for a certain QB I could see them taking an OL and a DL with them.
