That's a tough call for Hoyer, isn't it? Does he feel more confident starting with Geno (or Mariota) or Mallett to compete with? From his perspective, he probably feels he can't lose.

I like Hoyer over Fitzpatrick and would like us to sign him for insurance. They need depth at the position, whether they draft Mariota or not. I think Hoyer provides that. Fitzpatrick has been in the league a long time and is nearing the end of his career. Hoyer is still pretty young and he showed last year that he can step in and win some games. At times, he played really well actually.

But, if we don't get him, then we don't.

The big focus still needs to be at CB, where Revis is really the only top player available. They can go for Cromartie and Williams and that would be an upgrade. But if the Jets want to have a great defense, they need to bring Revis back if they can. I never wanted to him to leave, understood the move at the time, but always believed that Jets needed to keep a franchise building block like Revis. The Jets also need help on the O-line, so we'll see if they make any moves there..

I think either way it will be a 'Competion"

I also think he worked with Obrien in NE

Oh, damn. if Im him, I follow O'Brien to Houston then. O'Brien likes a short, accurate, precise offense that takes shots down field to keep the defense off balance (I think they make a big run at Torrey Smith)...Hoyer does have the accurate short passing game over big armed Mallet who pushes everything down field with his cannon. I think Hoyer would beat him out.

The interesting thing is Gaily seems to really like Hoyer if we're trying to outbid the Texans. i dont think Mac doesn't raise the stakes if Gaily isn't behind the move, and he appears to be. if Gaily wants Hoyer over mariota, Mallet, and Fitzpatrick, Jets should get him, IMO. Even if we dont get him, you have to give Mac credit for stopping what appeared to be a done deal and easy connection between Hoyer and O'Brien.

Not so fast.

I just saw this update although it is from Florio:

PFT's Mike Florio reports free agent Brian Hoyer will meet again with the Jets on Monday night.

There have been reports that Hoyer has a deal in place with the Texans, but as we learned with the Eagles and Frank Gore, nothing is set in stone until Tuesday afternoon when players are allowed to sign the dotted line. The Jets and Hoyer have remained in contact throughout Monday and could still work out a deal.
