Jets making three big additions before the trade deadline

The NFL trade deadline is not until Oct. 28, but the Jets are adding some players before then without making any deals that can help them down the stretch.

They’re getting back three significant bodies over the next few weeks in defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, running back Stevan Ridley and cornerback Dee Milliner.

All of them can help.

The biggest impact will be the return of Richardson, who just finished a four-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. Richardson is back this week and will play against the Redskins, and makes a ferocious defense even scarier. The Jets are second in total defense (280.2 yards per game) and first in scoring defense (13.8 points per game).

Richardson gives coach Todd Bowles another piece to play with.

Milliner has been on the short-term IR list since training camp with a wrist injury, and can return to practice next week and play in three weeks against the Jaguars. Milliner no longer will be asked to be a No. 1 or 2 corner. Instead, he’ll slot in as the team’s fourth or fifth corner. That gives the Jets tremendous depth at the position.

Ridley has been on the physically unable to perform list since training camp, as he recovers from knee surgery. He also can return to practice next week, and the team has 21 days to add him to the active roster after that. Ridley will give the Jets another big back to spell Chris Ivory and provide depth at a position where Ivory and Bilal Powell both have dealt with nagging soft-tissue injuries.

The reinforcements are coming.

Geez, another positive article by Costello. What's with that?

Ridley, if healthy, can give Ivory some breathing room. Love Ivory, but the guy runs with a lot of violence, and is always banged up. If Ridley is healthy he can give the Jets another set of fresh legs for the streach.

Milliner? I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed. As the #4 or 5, as Costello says he's got to be great depth. Maybe/hopefully as the season unravels, he can give Cro a run

Good article. These players will play a huge role for us down the stretch as they provide Bowles to keep players fresh. Not many teams can say they are playing with backups and not miss a step. Let's hope they live up to their potential.

Like the article says getting Sheldon back is huge. Dee milliner will meaning nothing to this team. The Jets have operated without him ever since they drafted him. He's the forgotten man due to injury. I hope that he's healthy for the NE game because the Jets will need good cover corners all the way down the line against the Patsies when they spread the field.

I suppose Ridley could be a fresh alternative to use late in the season, but I think Jets should be very guarded about this. Ridley is a fumbler. If he pulls that sh*t with the Jets? They are done. As I mentioned before the Jets are not built to come from behind. They cannot overcome a rash of turnovers. They need guys with SURE hands and Ridley does not fit that bill.

Millner will never dress. No way they are pulling Jarret or M. Williams out of the lineup to play him

Not so sure. Think it's going to be the Geno Smith situation all over again. They want to see what a guy with some talent can do before they cut bait.

Especially where Milliner was drafted. I know they didn't draft him, but the guy has some major legue skills. They'll give him a shot

They're not pulling Jarrett, who normally doesn't play the same position, or Williams. But they could easily not dress McDougle or Walls - one of whom has dressed for every game thus far. Also there are going to be injuries. If Milliner stays healthy (far from a certainty), he will dress and play some snaps.
