Right on the money with O Line and my concerns for letting our QB be able to get better instead of running around not knowing if defense is coming from middle, or either side. LR comment to me that Boomer being just a reporter is silly. Boomer a QB for long time and has many friends in NFL including Jets he played for. So when Boomer speaks about Jets player troubles like Becktons I listen because he isnt just a reporter getting hear say, its people he has known for years.
I wasn't clear on the timeframe that Boomer made those comments in - was it recent or before the footage we have seen recently of Becton working out?

my question is this (and i am using him as an example)... if JD were all in for Chandler Jones and Fletcher Cox, but lost out, does JD know what the player is worth if he did sign for more elsewhere?

It’s not what the player is worth or gets paid as much as what this GM thinks said player is worth to the Jets. . Our GM apparently sets a value to a player and he’s not willing to compromise on his metrics.

after the latest free agent signings , I am totally confused as to who we will take in the first round. I do expect both picks to live up to where they were drafted

G's top 100 board has 3 lineman at 1 through 3. at least one of them will be there at 4. is it possible we take one of them and Becton is not really getting in shape and gets traded? could be? I hope not. that would be a sad waste, but I sure would like to see one of those guys added to our line with Becton playing as we hoped he would. then add either top edge or CB at 10 . we are going to get 2 good players here, I just have a good feeling about it

then he has to hit on rounds 1 thru at least 4 on every draft, because he is not going to get players he covets in FA when he (1.) doesn't bid what the market bears, and (2.) cannot adjust his metrics to the market.
do not re-sign Sheppard, or sign Martin, but got Chandler Jones and Cox instead... we are an instant playoff contender.
When exactly will Jet fans learn that a team is what wins, not a collection of stars past their prime . Furthermore, wanted to go to a contender and nobody but Jet fans think this team led by Zach Wilson is anywhere near to contention.
1.) if you add Chandler to a DE rotation that includes Lawson, and a "Travon Walker" or a "Thibs", you instantly are a pass rushing powerhouse.
2.) if you add Cox to a rotation that includes JFM and Q, you instantly have a DLine that collapses pockets from the inside.
it's all about getting after the QB to make it to the playoffs...those two are great against the run as well.
Lotta Truth in this post... lots. But i am not one of those fans who think that by adding a "Neil O'Donnell', do i see the Jets in the SB.
Rather, i see those 2 players as the epitome of professionals, but more importantly, the types who will not "hang on"... so does JD, and that's why he went after both.
Going after them was not a problem. Compromising your principles to land them wouldn’t have been prudent

i stand in agreement with you in the support for the rationale behind not overspending, or mortgaging opportunities for the future.
i also like JD's front loaded contracts that get us out of jail quickly if a bad signing is made.
but i wasn't speaking about principles. we're talking about real costs... if a dozen eggs costs $3.99, then you have to pay $3.99 if you want an omelet.
my question was whether or not, when the roster is upgraded to being a contender, will he make the "cherry on top" deal that (1.) could cost him his job, or (2.) win us a SB?
I think the move to acquire a talent like Hill showed he will . To pay what he was willing to with draft picks and contact stipulated as much

I didn't really care when I heard the Jets were in the running for Hill. Mainly because I knew the contract was going to be insane and we are still unsure about Wilson. I would hate to waste two years finding out Wilson was not the answer and pay $60M of that contract in the process. JD just needs to get a WR through the draft. However, I don't know if he will pull the trigger when the team is ready.
