Jets OC and can Darnold become an average NFL QB

I know Gaise is HC and brought his choice for OC to Jets. So after the last terrible game who is really calling the vanilla Offensive Plays all season? Is it Gaise or OC? If its the OC he should have been fired the next morning and would take some heat off Gaise. IMO the OC is the one who designs the Plays for Offense and gets the OK from the HC and advise to changes on game planning. Gaise has to watch the entire team and just trust his OC and DC to come up with schemes to win. So right now I think the move is firing the OC after that complete disaster that will bring BLITZES the rest of the season on Darnold. Now Darnold, I didnt like Jets Drafting of him. I didnt think he was ready for NFL and his awful turn overs in College wasnt going to improve against the better NFL Players. I was hoping that Jets could some how help Darnold to become an average top ranked 15 to 20 QB. Now I'm not sure he can even be that after the OC and Gaise have done to him. Right now Darnold hasnt quit like I seen Sanchez do in 49ers game, but it might be coming if the OC cant design or even copy other Offensive Plays from around the NFL. Right now Jets needs a change! Either fire Gaise or fire the OC. This will tell the Players ,OK we are starting over on Offense and a BETTER Offensive Play calling with 2 or 3 RB running the ball 50% to help Darnold. Right now if Jets keep the current OC or HC after these awful Play CALLING its going to end any chance of Darnold becoming an average QB. Darnold must have confidence in Plays and make ZERO TURN OVERS a priority for him and must be stressed to Darnold the importance of not doing so. Darnold is young but Jets needs to Draft another QB in next Draft in case Darnold isnt able to make it and we have another young QB in the wings to take over and give us FANS some hope of Jets future. Drafting another QB with top pick in first round is a MUST ! Also it gives Both Darnold and new Rookie QB time. Time for Darnold to get better and time for new rookie QB to learn whats needed to become an NFL QB. If Darnold turns out we have a great back up or trade. If Darnold doesnt? Then we have the next possible franchise QB in the wings.

Gase calls the plays.
He is also the OC. Flounder is just his assistant, helps out during practice.

I do n ot think you said this after dallas…. Sam was the highest rate QB last four games of last season. He had a bad game - read this article

Your confusing highest QBR, with highest rated.
Sam four games:
Bad game vs Buffalo
Good game vs Texans
Great game vs GB
Awful game Vs NE
Lots of screens, short 2-3 yard passes artificially inflate QBR.
He was the worst QB in the league last year. He did flash a ton of potential but overall he played like a rookie with little experience and minimal talent around him.

I blame MNF more on the coaching staff than on Darnold. They went into the game unprepared and never made not a single adjustment.

The O Line can't block and the coaching staff isn't designing any plays that gives the kid an out. Help the damn offense out and go in with a plan more sophisticated than a 5 year old could pick out of his madden game.

Darnold has not been given the support needed to succeed. I've watched Baker have a dream roster and not succeed. There is no way we can waste a top 10 pick on QB when the most important position of need is center or LT. If we draft a QB then we will have the same exact problem in two years. In two years with the Jets, Darnold was given the worst OL in the NFL. I think adding his security blanket in Herndon will help. He won't play a good defense until weeks 15-17. The game should slow down. Williams should be the HC immediately to make things easier for Darnold. Baker thrived under Williams because he had structure.

I agree with you that Gase and his confederacy of dunces deserves most of the blame. But Darnold also did some inexcusable things, too. Like just lollipopping the ball into space where it could be intercepted instead of just taking the sack or throwing it into the ground. I'd rather a grounding call or wasting a down and punting rather than another crushing INT.

They also showed a replay where the Pats had an unmarked player on the D line ready to blitz with Bell on the other side of our backfield. That's on Darnold to recognize the coverage and shift Bell over.

Weird how after one game, Darnold's fate seems to mirror other Jet QBs who had an embarrassing tenure. Click the story link below for the image. Didn't show up as I tried to post it.

Report: Sam Darnold's Toenail Removal Procedure Was "Pretty Gross"
Lauren Theisen

Toenail is the new seeing ghosts is the new spleen is the new mononucleosis. Add to the never-ending list of Sam Darnold’s bizarre ailments a toenail that had to be removed on Tuesday, after the Jets QB’s foot got stepped on during his team’s spooky loss to the Patriots on Monday. Head coach Adam Gase did not specify which little piggy got roastbeefed, but he did say that, even though Darnold will need a new shoe with some extra padding, there’s no doubt that he and all 10 of his toes will be in action come Sunday.

You might imagine that the removal of a toenail is pretty dang gross, and instead of googling to confirm your suspicions, I’d rather you just read Adam Gase telling you that you’re right.
“We’re just trying to make sure that he feels good with the shoes that he’s got,” Gase said. “He just had that procedure (Tuesday). He had a toenail removed. I don’t know. It was pretty gross, what they were talking about.”

Darnold’s physical problems have now spread all through his body, from saliva to his chest and now the ends of his feet. Maybe that means he’s finally done being haunted.

This is why the Jets can't ever develop a franchise QB. As soon as someone comes along, Jets fans are so negative they turn on him before he has a chance to develop. Between the fans and the tabloid NY media who feed into the Jets negativity, it is almost impossible for a QB to actually develop in this environment.

Even Namath was ridiculed for his white cleats, long hair/moustache and lifestyle.

I've had it happen twice to the big toe, once on each side. It's nasty, but you get past the pain pretty quickly. He will probably have to wear a custom cleat that protects the toe, as having it stepped on would be excruciating.

Man, that had to be awful. My son once almost had both removed for some nail issue. Just hearing about the procedure from his podiatrist had me reeling.

There's no audible to shift protection in that situation. Listen to Sam's reply to that exact situation in the NE post game. Or Gase after the Browns. That's why our QBs are getting killed every week. Gase's philosophy is get the ball out faster than the free rusher. It happens repeatedly. Look at the Browns game.

I'll take your word on it. But they even mentioned the Bell play on one of the post game shows. If it's not on Darnold, then Bell missed it. Someoen needed to switch over and block the DB who had a free/clear shot.

I'm sitting here cringing. lol

Both times it was more shock than pain, at least initially. Lots of blood. It's an ugly, hideous injury. But the pain at the time wasn't that bad.

The removal hurt like hell. And having it stepped on or catching it on something after losing the nail was awful.

Good news for me is that it did not take the full six months or so for it to grow back. Maybe 2 or so for me.

Guess that's some level of a silver lining. lol Glad it was not too insane.
