None of Geno's physical ability and improved play knowledge will help if he continues to drop back 10 steps behind the pocket for a sack and/or a fumble. He looked bewildered and scared back there and incapable of making a quick decision about where to throw or just throwing it away. I don't know if that kind of mental quickness can be improved or not, especially in practice where the pressure of 1000 lbs of men bearing down on you just isn't there. Easy to look good in redshirt play where nobody is trying to take your head off.
And all the positive comments from staff etc are really nice. They are trying to encourage him as much as they can to give him a chance. We don't know what they are really thinking, but I am sure they are more worried than they are letting on.
And they are trying to get something out of somebody who was a high pick before they give up.
They're reluctant to have him go to another team where he might turn it on. That would put their ability to evaluate under some critical scrutiny.
