PFT -- The Jets plan to sign wide receiver Jeremy Ross as long as Ross passes a physical, ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported Wednesday.

Ross, 28, has bounced around the league as a backup wide receiver and return specialist. He played for both the Ravens and Raiders last season and hit the market when the Raiders didn’t tender him as a restricted free agent last month.

Ross has also spent time with the Patriots, Colts, Packers and Lions. Cut by the Lions at the end of the 2015 preseason, Ross signed to the Ravens practice squad then spent a month on the active roster before being released. He signed first to the Raiders practice squad, then was promoted in late November and played in the last six games returning kicks and punts.

In 45 career games, Ross has 39 catches for 469 yards and two touchdowns. He returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns with the Lions in 2013 and averages 11.2 yards per punt return for his career.

The Jets cut slot receiver Jeremy Kerley before free agency, and with last year’s second-round pick, Devin Smith, recovering from a torn ACL suffered in December, Ross should get plenty of opportunities in training camp to prove to the Jets that he’s worth keeping.

I think we are stacked at the WR position now. Maybe not in talent but definitely in bodies. i still feel like after Marshall and Decker, it's just a bunch of JAGs

Boy do I agree with you! Today you really need four good Rec's & the 5th better be fair to good

I'm confused at how we are still signing players with no cap space?? We don't even have enough to sign our upcoming draft picks.

I'm not so sure if you're being sarcastic or not. In my opinion, we'll need to have at least one more capable body so that in the event Marshall and Decker miss a play, they can step up.

Ok you have a very good TE or Rec Rb or Jimmy brown as a runner you can skip maybe four & five but other wise you are missing something in my book. Look at the Giants last year two top WR,s get hurt & down the tubes.

In the 60's we had Maynard & Sour along with TE big boy Pete Lammons........We also had Bake Turner as out secret weapon. It was another age but we had the one spare but after that we were very thin at WR. We had no real backup TE
