I agree, after what I witnessed in free agency, I'm very excited about this regime and actually expecting them to hit a home-run in the draft. I never got the feeling that Idzik was up to the job, and free agency last year confirmed my worst suspicions that the man was in way over his head, but Mac has given me the opposite vibe, I see a guy who has a plan and acts with extreme aggression to make his vision a reality, thats why I'm predicting a slight trade up for Mariota at an affordable price, I just have faith that Mac is gonna get his man and it won't cost us a fortune to do it, because the man is THAT competent. I have a good feeling about Todd Bowles too.

Whatever he does..I have confidence in him..some blind faith..but from the whole Woody getting the 2 consultants of Wolf and Casserly, and his demeanor,..and apparent thoroughness and relaxed mentality outwardly about the process, it seems like a great thing...he also wont be wavered by press or fans..which I love and which he shouldnt be...cos to be honest..aside from winning..WE really dont mean much in his grand scheme of constructing the team...

Some of those quotes show you that this guy is a real talent evaluator who knows and studies his craft. For example, the quote about the Steelers shows you he studies successful organizations to see what they are doing right, why they've traditionally produced so many elite edge rushers. Spoken like a real talent evaluator who has scouting in his blood.

My impression of Macc?

Anything is possible. He didn't say anything revealing. I understand he can't show his hand right now.

wonder if his comments about a pipeline of 3-4 OLBs and how they take time to develop makes it less likely we use a premium (#6) pick on the position

I was thinking about that too. Maybe trade down and grab one or wait until round two. He also called olb's the "life blood" of a 3-4 defense. I wonder if we'll take more than one?

"It's your lifeblood in the 3-4 defense." - Jets GM Mike Maccagnan on 3-4 outside linebackers.

we have a new and it seems better coach/GM so that is a win.

one more year of rex and I don't know what I would have done but he really made me indifferent to watching them.

These last two years the fire wasn't there like usual with me.

I am so psyched though for our new regime.

Agreed. Last season was the first year I was okay with just tracking the game on my phone while doing something else...the end was always the same. I think I missed every single snap Vick took...because he looked so bad when he came in for Geno the first game, I wouldnt watch his next games...didnt miss much. ;) When Geno went back in, I started watching again.

I agree...but it also makes me wonder if he's open to trading up for non-QBs since he's talking to all 5 teams. What if they're willing to wait for OLB and have Williams #1 on the big board and Cooper #2 (could be, not a crazy notion), but the top of the draft goes: Winston, Mariota, and Williams in some order (also not crazy)...could the Jets make a move up for Cooper (if they love him)? I dont think it is out of the question. They may view Cooper the #1 prospect of the draft when you factor in he's 20.

Gauging interest with every top 5 pick team makes a lot of sense to me. Titans may want the farm but Jax and Oakland will take your 2nd to move up...and say Titans take Williams it will be easier to pull the trigger with Jax.

very interesting

Interesting

So you missed the best game the Jets played all season beating the Steelers.

I'm frankly just a tiny tad disappointed, Dave in your apparent lack of diehardedness for our beloved Jets of New York

Happy I am a fan of ALL the Jets and watch every game they play regardless of who is playing and who is benched

Judging by the quality of your posts, you need to watch as much football as you can. High school, pop warner, in the street, if a father is playing pass with his son in the backyard, go watch and learn something.

Alright, let's cut it out. SG3, you initiate drama with 55, then you don't like his response. Just cut it out. The thread isn't about him.

Not as cute as Dave is for him, but a good try

*What the media wants:

Jets to trade up and bash the hell out of them.

*What the Majority of Jets fans want:
Stay at 6 and get the best player available

*What Maccagnan wants:

We will see next Thursday night thru Saturday evening. All indications, given the type of free agency he is having are that Big Mac wants to make a name for himself come draft day and wants to improve this team immediately in the 1st 3-4 rounds and not want to take on a project like Mariota.

That being said, I see him being a huge player in the Rivers potential block buster trade deal here in NYC.

IMO

Rivers would be the worst possible choice for the Jets to piss away the #6 and god knows what else for

The comparison is simple really

Sidearm Phil and Young Eli arrived in 2004. Neither of them can be classed as a top 5 QB after 10 years. But, Eli, while meh has won 2 championships and Choking Phil hasn't even gotten to one

I'll take Marcus Mariota, Regis...FINAL ANSWER

I agree about the media, especially our own media. They love to write negative articles about the Jets. But I don't think Maccagnan is trying to do anything too big here. He seems like the type who will take risks, but not swing for the fences. His comments about drafting for need in the draft reinforce that. I was glad to hear him talk about teams failing in the draft who draft for need. It's completely true. GM's overvalue players when they draft for need positions.

I don't think we're trading up for Mariota, and I don't think Rivers is coming here, either. More realistic is the Jets taking a guy like Petty or Grayson (or another QB of that level). I know that's not the five run home run that fans want to see, but it's more realistic to me based on listening to Maccagnan yesterday.

11. Crazed Mac

The most encouraging thing I heard on a recent trip to Florham Park was that GM Mike Maccagnan has been “maniacal” with his draft preparation, and that unless you are involved with football decision making, you cannot get near him.
