Romo most likely to be cut,not traded. We still have the cap room to sign him. Great locker room guy for the kiddos to emulate...
I doubt we spend our cap money.

Romo deserves better.

Of course not. But if you want to offer a competitive rebuild, he's the best on the market. It's not a good fit for him,and his health is a major risk. I agree, there's less than 1%chance.
I would hope we save cap for next year, get a cheap vet QB who isn't a threat to start, but can be a sacrificial tackling dummy. Either hack wins games and we're happy, or he can't and we get a high pick.

Osweiler, if the Browns cut or trade him for nothing overly significant I would be tempted. He is still young and if you don't have to pay him much I would be intrigued.
If he gets dumped, i agree. He'd be EXTREMELY CHEAP on a one year deal. He definetly wants to double dip as he's guaranteed the $16M from that horrendous Houston contract.
Teams knowing this will possibly offer him a $2M-$3M deal for the '17 season, if not cheaper.
Teams know Brock is a young player but may have already reached his ceiling. My gut feeling is that Mike will due his due dilligience on him by calling his old employer, due to the fact that he still has friends within the Houston organization. I'am more than sure he will call them to get the skinny on Brock on how he was as a member of the Texans team.
If Brock is signed, it shouldnt inhibit Mike from drafting another QB as good competition at that highly valued position goes a long way. My dark horse, Chad Kelly.
I would say this, if petty and hack aren't ready, how does Romo hurt a rebuild? I'm not saying go sign a ton of vets to block the kids, but how much better is robbie Andersons progression if he has Romo throwing to him instead of hack throwing wild passes?I guess this raises the question - do you want a competitive rebuild?
Of course, I want the Jets to be competitive, as competitive as possible. But does a competitive rebuild actually work against the long-term interests of the team? Does it lead a team to both hurt its draft prospects and bury some of its youth behind free agents as it tries to compete for a wild card run?

This is assuming mac isn't ready to rely on petty or hack as his starters this year.
Our line is younger, more athletic, and improved from what we've had the last 3 years. If Romo can groom our young offense, he will age out as petty and hack mature, or we draft a top prospect in the next 2 years. The rest of the team is able to grow until a franchise qb cab be secured.
This is highly unlikely, but with the pieces on this team, a pro bowl qb could make this team competitive as we grow younger.
The thing is, Romo by all accounts is super bowl or bust. I like his odds in Houston, Denver next. I don't think money is his motivator.

Stay the course Jets - no re-threads. Let's go young (draft or Hackenberg) and worst case be in position next year with the number 1 pick. Silly for Sam!!
Look, I think he's nowhere near worth that contract, hated it from the start and believed HOU would come to regret it. But... I'll believe it when I see it. He's the best QB on their roster, would win the job over the other 2 easily, they have to pay him anyway, and they supposedly have the QB Whisperer as head coach. I don't see him being released.they are trying to see if any team wants him for $8 M in trade for a 3rd round pick... Otherwise they will simply release him all they wanted was that 2nd round pick, which is illegal to trade cash for a pick even tho they received a player with that pick... This will be interesting on how the league responds to this trade...
Agree. I think you're only in the hook for $1MM of the $17MMOsweiler, if the Browns cut or trade him for nothing overly significant I would be tempted. He is still young and if you don't have to pay him much I would be intrigued.
I like Osweiler if they can reasonably attain him. He is young with a strong arm.
If the Jets are not going to contend for the playoffs next year, which they aren't, they need to find out what they have on the roster particularly at QB, but at other positions too. If Hackenberg develops he should compete with Petty for the starting job. We'll never know what we have until these guys get some playing time. It's not about wins and losses for this team, it is about progress. Romo won't come here. He'll have better options when Dallas releases him. McCarron will take a draft pick and he's probably another stop gap.
If we are going to rebuild, let the kids play or draft another QB and get him ready to go this year. (Watson). If we don't go that route and Hackenberg and Petty don't show enough, then, next year take a QB in the first round of a deep QB class. The only thing complicating all of this is the future of Bowles. If he needs to win to keep his job, then he wants a stop gap QB that can win some games. If his job is secure then stick with the plan. If it's not secure, the Jets should have let him go last year and started rebuilding with a new coach. We have almost an entirely new staff anyway.
For me, I would like to see either Hackenberg, Petty or Qb we draft start this season.
I think Cleveland showed this year, that game experience isn't always the best way to learn. You can quickly destroy a good prospect of he's not ready, and seriously get other guys injured. That's understandable. It's a philosophical decision based on how you think QBs should be handled. Should young guys sit like Aaron Rodgers, redshirting a few years to prepare for the starting role? Or is there no better experience for a QB than playing experience?
If you believe in the first, then a stopgap would be understandable.
Rebuilding takes time and patience, so do certain qb prospects. We're not privy to where they are, but if they aren't ready to see the field, it's detrimental to plan on starting them.Agreed one billion percent here. What's the point of rebuilding, if your not going to do it with a young QB. Young like Hack or Petty or a rookie they draft. Not any of these reject wash outs like Cutler or Osweiler or McCarien. These have proven they can't get the job done so why bother. Start fresh and new and let's see where we can get out of this. Rebuilding takes time and patience so let's do this correctly Jets.
