Just because our staff is interviewing all the QB's does not mean they will be trading up or moving away from Geno. There doing what every other team is doing. I don't believe half of what Cimini says. Do you actually believe we don't have to give up too much to move up to #1 or #2 . Some of these reporters know very little on what it will cost to move up.

So just looking that the new administration has no ties to an absolutely HORRIBLE QB, have already traded for a veteran and are looking at several QB options in the upcoming draft does put some validity to the stories.

They may or may not move on from him immediately, or maybe they use him as trade bait for any takers, but I don't think they see him as a real solution at QB.

I agree with you. I would love to get a good QB. My post was not intentionally directed at you as it seems to be. I just don't believe in what Cimini says. He has no clue what the Jets Brass is going to do and the other reporter posting that the Jets will not have to give up much to move up in the draft to land Mariota.

Oh no worries, I didn't really take it as pointed towards me. I was just saying the story may actually have some legs LOL (even though they did mention Cimini in there)

Well, Jets, Rams, Cleveland, Bucs, Bears, and Houston are all in play to try and upgrade QB...and essentially this class has Winston, Mariota, Petty, Hundley, and Grayson worth talking about...

Its obvious supply doesnt meet the demand...and Im not even talking about supply doesnt meet demand for quality QBs, im just talking about adding a QB that makes your roster and can push for PT somewhere down the line.

As Jets fan, we get lost in "which QB will we add," and forget at least six other teams feel the same way, and there's always a team like the Saints, Chargers, KC, Eagles, or Broncos that could steal one of the names off the list you didnt anticipate because they like how the young QB fits their system...

Jets may "want" or be "targeting" one of these guys for Chan to work with, but the low supply of QBs is going to make acquiring one a challenge and we'll likely have to reach for 1 whenever we take one. Grayson may be a 3rd rd talent that doesnt make it out of rd 2.

It will be as interesting to see when and how the Jets add a QB as which QB they add...

Jets say they haven't given up on Geno Smith, he'll compete to start

They have already brought in a veteran quarterback and will work out the top three quarterbacks in this April's NFL draft, but don't think that the New York Jets have given up on Geno Smith.

At least, not yet.

Smith, set to enter his third year in the league after being a second-round pick of the Jets in 2013, is at a pivotal juncture of his career and development. It isn't make or break for the young quarterback but his future with the team and perhaps as a starter very much rests upon this offseason. But with the Jets set to work out Jameis Winston this week and having gone to the pro day for Marcus Mariota, reading the tea leaves would indicate that the Jets are set to wave the white flag on Smith. Yet tea leaves sometimes are far from reality.

It is a new regime in Florham Park with first-year head coach Todd Bowles as well as a wet-behind-the-ears general manager in Mike Maccagnan. There's no ties to Smith, in fact, veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was brought in this offseason, has ties to Maccagnan and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. But the staff isn't biased against Smith, either, as they haven't been here his first two years in the league, and this can work in Smith's favor.

“Geno is going to be given the chance to come right in and compete. It's a new coaching staff here now and they need to kick the tires on him, see what he is all about,” a league source told Metro. “All that talk about him being traded, being cut it just doesn't make sense.

“He has two seasons worth of starts and has had some big wins for us. He's not getting cut, there's too much upside to see and explore. Does that mean he's the starter? It's not a 'gimme.' He has to win it. Ryan was brought in here with the same mindset [that] the best man starts Week 1.

“But Geno is far from six-feet under around here.”

So the source is saying that there's a chance.

Last month, Metro reported that Fitzpatrick wasn't brought in just to mentor Smith but to compete for the starting job. The source again reiterated that the team thinks Fitzpatrick can be the Jets starter - “he can certainly win the job and people in this building think he can.” There's reason to understand why Smith isn't the presumptive starter heading into 2015.

Smith through two seasons has shown little if any progress. He's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in both NFL seasons and has yet to post a winning record. More often than not, he's proven to be alright as a game manager.

What he hasn't proven is that he can win games.

“He can do more, I think everyone knows that. Mechanically, the people in that quarterback room know there's work to be done. He struggles with reading defenses still,” the source said.

“But after two years, his time here can't be written off. There's not some big movement to get rid of him. Remember, he is still on a rookie contract. Even as a backup it is still a good deal for this team.

It comes down to maturity and him taking that next step. If he can he can make things interesting around here.”

Todd McShay this morning said that the Browns are all in on trading for Mariota. They will trade their 2 first round picks 12 & 19 to the Titans, who would be idiots not to take that deal since they already have a QB in Mettenberger.

Go Jets...Cyborg

A lot of teams interested in trading for mariota are not interested in Winston...no team that is interested in Mariota will trade for #2 until they are 100% sure Winston goes #1 ...until that pick is made, no team is moving up. If a team is that pressed for mariota, the discussions start with Tampa, not the Titans.

I suspect Winston goes 1 then Titans use the entire clock to get the best deal for #2 .

I agree just from our mental health standpoint so we can concentrate on who they might actually get...

Lord hear our prayers huh! Let's try this, Lord please give us the best QB we could possibly have. A true franchise QB. Whether that be Geno, Mariota, Winston or whomever! Think that sounds way better and unbiased.

Please, just stop.

Geno Smith has as much chance of being a franchise QB as other Jet greats Rick Mirer, Brooks Bollinger, Kellen Clemens, Jay Fiedler and Bill Demory

Thankfully, Ryan Fitzpatrick will take over in 2015 and end the Geno Error of Jet football

But you could be right and I wrong. Geno could definitely be the next Tom Brady this season

Definitely

You should stupid right about now and have been all along with this Fitzgerald garbage. Fitz will help us win 8-10 games max, if that. Geno can do the same damn thing and that said, Fitz wouldn't end the Geno erra because he wouldn't do any better then him. Now if you want to talk about Winston, Rivers, Breez or even Mariota I wouldn't argue it. Especially Rivers, Breez or Winston. Stop with I'm so called in a suttle way rooting for Geno because we all know your not.

Agree 100%

Although 8 wins would be 5 better and 10 wins would be 7 better than our incumbent achieved last year in his vastly improved 3 win sophomore season and Riverz, Breez ain't coming here and Winston and Mariota will be long off the board when we pick @ #6 . But I always enjoy your "suttle" and passionate arguments in support of more Geno nevertheless

Hey genius, I did say Geno could win 8-10 games this year with this team also didnt I. As far as last year was concerned, your boy Fitz wouldnt of done any better then 3-4 wins with that team. Pretty much what Geno did last year. So how would he be better for this team I dont know but I let you stay in dream world with a ten year, proven no better then a back up, bounced around the league reject QB. I will stay in dream world with a 2 year only experienced, 24 year old QB that played with horrible teams and even worse coaching and management.
