Kiper's statement on the Jets trading up for the third best QB seems pretty much ego driven to drive home his point considering that the best NFL analysts can't agree on who the top 4 are , let alone the top 2.

I don’t blame Macc for Cousins because we never had a chance. He was going to Minnesota all the time. Macc threw more money at him and it still wasn’t enough.

But Macc does have to rely on scouting and luck with this QB pick. Lots of people loved Ryan Leaf and other busts before they became busts. His job status is partially dependent upon luck. It almost doesn’t seem right. But that’s the business. Results based.

it is not that I blame him but these are the best five for him to land a qb......now he still has to pick the right one

thanks!

i agree they likely gave up less than if they had made the trade on draft day. and i'm not even saying it was a bad trade. but i don't think it is out of line to call it a steep price (even if it could have been steeper on draft day), nor to say three 2nd rounders are potential starters they may have "given up". prior jet failures in the 2nd round doesn't mean we should just write-off future 2nd round picks as busts/meaningless.

if they get their QB of the future, it is worth it. i'm hoping like everyone else they do. but in the end, they gave up a lot of draft capital to be in position to draft perhaps the 3rd QB on their board.. i think that is the point kiper was making, and i don't think it is unreasonable nor a sign of some anti-jets bias coming from ESPN HQ. after the move, they don't control their destiny. picks 1&2 will determine who we get.

perhaps the team is agnostic as to whom among the big 4 QBs they get. i personally find it hard to believe the 4 QBs, with varying skillsets and their own pluses and minuses are so even on any team's board.

I agree. To me, it was a lot to give up for what could be the 3rd qb picked in the draft but if the pick becomes the next Peyton Manning then it was worth it....but that is a big if.

Let us pray...

I don't think we can look at it in a one-year vacuum. If the third QB taken this year is a top five QB taken in the decade, it's worth it. It depends on whether teams view 3 or 4 QBs this year as being better than the top two QBs taken in past seasons.
