Bowles was asked if the "door's closed" on Calvin Pace. "It's never closed." #Jets

Bowles on OLB Position: A lot of youth, a lot of inexperience, a lot of talent. Says door isn't closed to Pace returning.

Todd Bowles said the door is not closed on Calvin Pace perhaps returning. Then again, he also just said that about Cromartie. #Jets

Bowles' assessment of #Jets' OLB group: A lot of youth, inexperience. "A lot of talent, but nothing takes the place of experience." #jets

Bowles not sure if Devin Smith will be back by training camp. "Coming off an injury like that, just have to wait and see." #jets

Bowles "hopeful" TE's Amaro and Sudfeld will be cleared to practice this spring. Both coming off season-ending surgeries. #NYJ

Bowles: "I think [Brandon Shell, great nephew of Art Shell] is pretty good in his own right...He wants to make his own name."

Anybody want to chime in on why those short throws can be so challenging (as opposed to the deep ones)? Is it just a matter of touch, or is the footwork different? Or just a timing issue? (Or none of the above since I obviously have no clue what I'm talking about?) . . .

Sounds like he throws a great deep ball. Not sure we have had a QB that can do that since Favre but I don't count him.
hackenberg is the most physically gifted QB the jets have drafted since namath & he has a cerebral approach to the game..

if that's a "reach" at 51 i'm glad we took it..

This has been the prime reason that Hackenberg had a grade on him worst then the 2nd round. Has great physical tools . big arm, nice kid, and 53% completions. Looks tremendous one second, very inaccurate the next.

Very bad foot work, (that can probably be corrected) Bad decisions, often misses WR's who are wide open. The accuracy issues are his main problem.

He does throw a great deep ball, the Jets have had another QB on the team for a yearwho also throws a great deep ball, who hasn't played in a pro style O, and has never played under center until last pre-season.

Jets now have two young strong armed QB's................Both with serious flaws

All of the above plus more! If it gets into his head like Rick Ankeil & Steve Blass it can be a real problem. With him I don't know as I have not seen films. I did hear the other day he was missing the wide open ones a few times. They need to work with him.....Lets see how this plays out

I know about the inaccuracy issues -- it just seems like they're specific to the short throws, as opposed to an overall inability to consistently put the ball where it needs to be.

Personally I hope that's the case -- if he's gonna struggle with accuracy, let's limit it to the short stuff and find another way to get that kind of yardage. OTOH there's not too many ways to get the ball 50 yards down the field if it isn't coming out of the QBs hand . . .

Short throws are difficult in their own right. You need to get the ball out through a passing lane with 6'6" linemen throwing their hands up in the lanes. Your receiver may only be 10 yards away worth 2 defenders converging. Do you Lob it, resulting in a slow high pass, or do you drill it through a tight window, risking it getting batted or being too hard to catch.

Great points, but are those the circumstances during these practices?

I know at the combine they made it sound like he was missing wide open receivers 10 yards away . . .
