Jets' secondary is one of the most improved units in the NFL

The OL is significantly improved, as well. No unit on the team is worse than it was last year. These predictions of the Jets picking top 6-8 in the draft, of them winning 5-6 games, I don't get it. They are a better team than last year's 7-9 team, and their division saw its top dog fall.

Sure the schedule is hard, but so was the first half of last year.

Not sure what the point is of the 1st half being hard last year. Yes, it was. And the Jets did horribly. I realize Darnold had mono and all, but still. We really don't know how the Jets would have done in the 1st half even if he was healthy.

The point of what I am saying is, the Jets had a bad schedule last year and ended up 7-9. This year, they have a better team and a tougher schedule, and people are acting like they're going to be a 5-win team.

the only thing we didn't get to see last year was a full 16 game performance by Sam... we went 7-9 (6-2) in the final 8 because of him, without him the entire team let down or weren't prepared to have a backup, third string and fourth string run the show... this season is this season and expect the shelf to be 8-8, meaning nothing lower than that is a win win for a rebuilding team... expect more from Sam and this entire team but expectations in continuity over production... we haven't had Herndon for two season now, how much impact will he have? except for Crowder we will have two new starting receivers, how will they mesh with Sam? everything offensively depends on the newly build OL, and can they sustain rushing lanes that LeVeon can become something closer of what he is, explosive... Can Perine supplement an additional rush attack, to give the passing attack more time to develop from the start of the season all they way through...

defense will be defense, Gregg Williams will get everyone healthy and ready to roll... my worry is not defense, not special teams but with the offense...

I’d feel more optimistic about the offense if I knew that we were going to have a normal training camp and a full set of preseason games. We will have almost an entirely new offensive line that needs time to gel. Once everyone is in sync, I feel that we can at least be competitive with all of the teams except for the very top ones. The problem is, we play some of those elite teams. I can see us being much better, but having a similar record to last year. I think that Joe D is off to a great start, although I quibbled about his 4th round, but a team as bad as the Jets were cannot be rebuilt in one year. If we see the improvement that I expect from Sam, now that he won’t be running for his life and constantly having to throw off his back foot and IF Gase shows that he can be a competent coach, we should be able to compete in 2022. In my opinion, we can’t expect that this year. Also, it appears that Miami, Buffalo, and Cleveland had real good drafts as well, unfortunately.

Given the two factors you site, it actually could go either way. That is, the 1st factor would imply more wins than last year, the 2nd factor would imply fewer wins. So, why the surprise?
