Jets sign DTs

The Jets have traded for two DTs, Jowon Briggs from the Brownies (pick swap, our sixth for their seventh) and Harrison Phillips from the Vikings (two sixth round picks). The latter trade raised my eyebrows when the ny post incorrectly reported that we'd given up two seconds!

This must be really bad news for the DTs who have gone through training camp, particularly Nnadi, as it would be really odd even for the Jets to expend draft capital and then release the guys less than a week later.

Harrison Phillips is a good trade and should help Quinnen.

I like both players, will solidify the depth and the price was pennies. Especially like the Vikings paying 1/2 of Phillips salary.

I agree. This move immediately improves the run stopping ability of this team. The best starting option to put with Williams was Cowert but I believe he will be spending some time on IR. Nnadi hasn't been as impactful as the Jets had hoped he would be. He might even get cut and everyone else has turned out to be either average or too inexperienced to be in that spot next to Williams. Phillips is experienced, still only 29, and a good run stopper. He's a little weak in the pass defense area but our backfield should be able to compensate once Sauce gets back in the line-up. Briggs is still basically a rookie but in the limited games he has played he too showed definite promise as a run stuffer. They will both need time to acclimate to the Jets system so I hope the fans at least give them a chance.
