The Jets have signed OLB Frank Beltre from the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL to a reserve/future deal.

Beltre, born in the Dominican Republic, moved to Randolph, N.J. at age 11 and started playing football in high school. The Towson product started three years for the Tigers, racking up 232 tackles, 38 TFL and 11 sacks, receiving first-team all-Colonial Athletic Association honors in his final two seasons. The 6’2”, 250-pound Beltre appeared in 45 games, 40 of which he started.

After spending time with the Chargers and Raiders in 2013-2014, Beltre headed north and signed with the Stampeders, where he was teammates with Jets OLB
Freddie Bishop for two years (2014-2015). In three seasons, Beltre appeared in 26 games, collecting 27 total tackles and three sacks. He was also a contributor on special teams, registering nine tackles.

So Mac has drafted and or signed through FA:

Erin Henderson
Bruce Carter
Lorenzo Mauldin
Darron Lee
Jordan Jenkins

A total of 5 linebackers in two seasons and yet the HC still feels the need to play a DE as a stand up linebacker? Can someone please explain to me what kind of sense this makes?

The ONLY conclusion I can draw from this is either the GM sucks at drafting or the HC sucks at coaching or BOTH? Either way I think there are some very serious flaws in the front office of the Jets and fans had every right to request their ouster.

We're calling for the ouster of Macc based on the rookie years of Lee and Jenkins? We're expecting rookies to set the world on fire? That's unrealistic. Mauldin is probably not an every down LB. But he was also a mid round draft pick. Erin Henderson has been a solid player for the Jets, picked up after a multiple DUI history. Macc gambled, and he's been a solid acquisition, up until a freak injury. Bruce Carter was always supposed to be a backup player.

I tend to like the idea of signing Canadian Football League linebackers because:
1) They have to be able to cover receivers out of the backfield, and
2) They have to have speed to protect the wider CFL field.

I don't know much about this specific player, but like the theory behind the signing.

Yes, I happen to believe that it is very realistic for rookie players to play way, way, way better than they did. Especially the 20th overall... and there's more to this incredibly stupid and risky draft pick - he's a PROJECT. They drafted him at Safety size. His actual, accurate weight is 220 pounds and not 232 which is what the Jets claimed he was.

So is it any wonder that the kid sucked?

Well? It just shouldn't be about WASTING 1st rounders on players that just MIGHT arrive in 3 or 4 years from now? You spend 1st rounders on players that can help immediately, not 3 fuckin years down the road.

So once again 5 linebackers in 2 seasons and yet these idgets still can't field a linebacking crew without using a DE? Forgive me if I'm not impressed by these assholes.
