Jets sign Stevan Ridley

If the Jets traded back in the 1st round it would not shock meat all if they took Gurley.
I might be only a little shocked if they took him at 6.

Exactly....I think it does just the opposite. Looks to me like Gailey doesn't think the right long term back is currently on the roster.

"long term rB" is a misnomer..they are a dying breed..with injuries and how the game is taking them out....

I was hoping they drafted a RB in the 2nd-4th rounds depending on who was there. Guess this eliminates that but I'll trust in Mac and Bowles. This was the only move they have made so far that has raised my eye brow a bit. If Ridley can recover from his injuries and play for us like he did years two and three with the Pats, we will be good at RB.

Does Ridley really have a fumbling problem?

Only 2 RBs (Forte, Rice) had more carries, yards and TDs with fewer fumbles than Ridley from 2011-14.

That's been debated among fans in New England while he was there. In my opinion he was just a frustrating player to watch because he really can flash everything you want in a lead back for spurts, but then his fumbles would come at the absolute worst times, like deep in scoring territory or deep in his own end. Then you add in his injuries and he was basically just never was able to become a featured RB you could count on.

why does this eliminate taking a RB in the draft?

the jets have ZERO RBs signed for 2016 and beyond. so signing ridley to a low-paying 1-year deal should do nothing to change our draft plans. it doesn't mean they will take a RB. but with ridley, ivory and powell all under contract for just 2015, the jets very well could look to draft a RB. i still expect them to do so.

I'm not so sure. We still don't have a rb under contract beyond this season.

I probably said that wrong. I view it like WR, if a BPA falls in our lap at RB or WR I think the Jets may take them. What I meant was I don't think the Jets will trade up to secure a Gurley, Gordon, or Duke Johnson because the need isn't there to lock in another key talent at the position. If Gurley or Gordon fall in our laps at 37, jets need to think hard about stealing them....but if they're there at 34, I don't think the Jets will feel compelled to go get that potentialky unanticipated falling talent.

I get it that Ridley loves the Ink. But he's on a one year deal with the Jets. I guess he plans on being around a while?

I could see it if you signed a 3-4 year deal, but 1 year? That's ballsy.

One year or more not sure it matters. Looks to me like he may have every intention of getting a tattoo for every team he plays for. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Wow that's different, does he really have a tat of the Pats to? Nothing wrong with it but I've never heard of that before. Is he the first player ever to do something like this?

Tomlinson had the Chargers logo on one calf and the Jets logo on the other calf muscle.

Phil Savage is really praising this signing today. He really likes the addition. I went back and watched some highlight films today. A couple things, he has great vision and often finds the cut back lanes. has better than advertised receiving hands (went back and looked at combine tape and he caught the ball with his hands and looked very good).

It just surprised me Savage had so many compliments for the kid I had to go look again. he actually reminds me a little of ivory.

his endzone dance sucks...but that likely comes from being a Patriot. Everything they do is corny. Hopefully he can come up with something new as a Jet.

Plus we don't know his full potential since he came from a team that throws the ball even more than they cheat.

I really don't care for this pick. This guy is coming off a major injury and is also a chronic fumbler. I think he'll be good competition in camp and probably win a spot on the roster assuming the Jets do not select a RB in the draft. If they get a RB in the draft, they should move on from Ridley. But MacCagnan's heart is in the right place though. God knows Chris Ivory needs an understudy to spell him from time to time.
