I believe picking up Sullivan or Sitton finishes the o-line for now. Sitton is sort of a hybrid C/G. But he can fill in if Harrison struggles. Sullivan has a more proven track record but he’s 34. Regardless, you take a developmental Center in round 3 if you don’t trade down. There are three Centers in that 3rd round area this year.

We should be able to move into Rd#2 if Darron Lee is actually on the trade block. Moving Lee and the Saints 3rd Rd pick should get us a high 2nd Rd pick.

Isn't some of that money reserved to pay for contractual raises to their holdovers from last year? And, IIRC, about 1/3 of their roster were free agents and those spots have to be restocked.
We can't think that all of the remaining cap space will be available for just a few key players.
Later

definitely. there are still a lot of players that will need to be added to field a full roster. to say nothing of signing the draft class.

according to overthecap, they have 58 guys under contract and $45MM in cap space. however if you scroll down through the list of players under contract, there are a lot of guys i'd like to consider "placeholders" until better depth players can be added.

True also though rookie contracts aren't usually that high.

the #3 pick will be.

sam was #3 last year and he had a $5.5 million cap charge. the 4th pick (ward) had a $5.3MM cap hit. barkeley (#2) had a $5.7MM cap hit

so you figure at least $5.5+ million is going to the #3 pick

Which makes their apparent disinterest in Justin Houston even more inexplicable.

They can give Houston 2 years for 30M, 15M Per, and they'll still have 35M in cap space.

sounds like houston is looking for the best fit and a best competitor and not necessarily the top dollar.

Justin Houston Closing in on Decision

One of the top players still available in free agency is former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Justin Houston. Though he is 30 years old, Houston is still a productive player—he had nine sacks in 12 games last season—who was primarily released due to cap concerns.

While one might have expected Houston to be off the market early, he's been taking his time with his decision. According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, that decision is now down to a handful of teams.

"[He] was down to three teams as of last week," Rapoport said on NFL Network. "Still trying to figure out where the right spot is. Basically, since he's made so much money in his career, and because where we are in free agency, he's not really in a rush. Still biding his time, but I know he's down to just a couple finalists here."

As Rapoport pointed out, Houston isn't likely to be baited into a snap decision because contract value probably isn't his top priority. This also means it's unlikely a dark horse swoops in and wows him with a significant offer.

Houston appears to be looking for the best fit and only a few teams can provide it.

Prediction: Houston signs with a potential contender within the week.

Can't see the Jets signing Houston unless he's taking Jenkins place. I think they are sold on either Bosa or Allen being available to take that OLB/Edge rusher position. I also don't see drafting Quinnen Williams because he doesn't fit in a 3-4 alignment and you're not going to pick a guy that high to be a part-time player when Greg Williams mixes his defensive alignments.

I still can't understand the Barr move if their thinking was he was going to be the edge guy. I don't care what he did in college ( I know he had 12 sacks his senior year) or if he was played differently in Minnesota, the fact is he had 13 sacks in 5 years. Hell Gholston had 15 sacks one year in college and got zero in the pros. That was IMO a stupid move, especially with Mosley coming on-board. Like SACK EXCHANGE said above Morse or Paradis was the most obvious, clear as a bell way to go.
