Jets VS giants Gamethread

Regress may be a little strong, just more methodical than last week.

C'mon they handcuffed him to a chair. TB is so hung up on NFL respect (TC)crap that he would not let Petty try anything but hand off to a RB or a scripted BS play. I place no blame on Petty. TB decided to play a lot of the guys who are going to be cut?

Nice end of first half drive for a Pick Six to Cro by Geno Manning

First half thrashing of Midgets first units by Jets first units

Beautiful clean, error free QB play from Fitzpatrick

Stacy made the final 53 BTW

Get well soon Jeremy so we can get Eric Decker off the punt return unit

Time to watch the future Deli workers, Security guards and Management trainees play the second half
Why are 75 percent or more of your post so negative and condescending? Man I wish I could express to you how I really feel about you but I've done it once already and got banned for a couple of days. Dont want that to happen again but just to get it off my chest, it might be worth it.

Its still closer than YOU or anyone on this board will ever get to playing real football and not be wannabes.....theses guys are trying their best and some will still make it after this camp.....and I think to compare them to those occupations is unfair to both them..and the people that work those jobs.....please don't come back and say it was a joke...feel that way..don't watch
Thank you, +1 and Amen to that brother.

Now back to the game. I didnt get a chance to see it so how did Petty look is my main concern? From the looks of one post he regressed from last week. Was it that bad or a slight regress? Does it look like he has a chance to be the #2 this year?

Regressed was unfair, upshaw is right, they just didn't ask him to do as much this week.

Ok thanks. Sheesss, I feel alittle better now! I've moved on from Geno and I'm locked onto Petty now in hopes he can be our future. Like real soon, like next year soon if not this year soon.

Some thoughts on the game:

Fitzpatrick played well. Very encouraging performance. He needed some time working first string offense. He looks like he's clicking with the receivers.

Eric Decker is going to have a big year with coverage shifting towards Marshall. Just don't have him return punts. That muffed punt was kind of ugly.

Brandon Marshall is still a beast. We got him for a 5th round pick. Crazy.

The first team defense as a whole looked better. They should be ready to go against Cleveland.

Trevor Reilly jumped off sides on one play, but I think he's a keeper.

Walter Powell looked really good running that punt back for the score. Impressive moves and speed. I think he's gonna stick as punt returner. He looks better to me than "Fair Catch Kerley".

My final thoughts on the 2015 preseason that, in reality, ended last night.

Been a Jet fan since, forever, and there's the Alzheimers and all[emoji4] but I.dont recall a preseason with almost no interceptions or fumbles by the starting QB or offense

And it was great to watch takeaways by the defense and scoring by all three units last night.

I was very impressed by Bowles' quiet demeanor on the sidelines, particularly after the fist wavings, chest bumping and verbal confrontations with opposing players of prior seasons

Our ILB's coverage ability is a concern and Pryor looks like a guy that will miss some tackles leading to big plays.

I think Pryor will sure up his tackling. It won't be long before he realizes/ someone tells him to do a simple wrap up tackle rather than go for the big hit.

Happy with the overall performance. But we have done that against the worst defense in the entire league

Still better than watching us struggle. Atlanta was the worst pass defense last year but they had us in check. We controlled the pace of this game and that is why we win. Atlanta had some big plays against our first team defense that we couldn't come back from. If we have to play catchup in games this season, I expect us to lose but if we can keep the score close, we will more likely than not hold on for the win.

This was posted on another sight and I thought it was perfect regarding this Cumberland - he is absolutely ineffective at everything he does, I don't see how he's going to stick around. In Chan's offense the TE will have to block for the most part, and he's among the worst blocking TE's I've seen. I've seen Fitz show more passion and physicality as a blocker in one play vs the Giants (where he sprinted down the field to take out a defender on a Bilal Powell run) than Cumberland has since he got here. He's not going to be a weapon in the passing game even if we forced the ball to him, which Chan won't do. Because he can't catch either. He's got to go. I rather have Kellen Davis as a blocker in the lineup with Amaro / Enunwa in the backfield catching passes instead of wasting a roster spot on a TE who can't block or catch and costs us 2+ mil. per year to keep around. Cut the ties.

Love the effort by Fitz, but damn , that's how you end your season in a nothing game

I'm not at all worried about Petty's performance last night. I think he did exactly what they told him to do. That's a very good sign. He's taking coaching well.

Petty is an extremely green rookie QB, who has a very live arm, and a reputation of being a gunslinger. That mentality is very hard to get out of a rookie QB. IN college they rely on their arm talent to overwhelm D's. It seldom works that way in the NFL. The defensive backs are just faster and better.

Looking at the 3 games I think Petty has followed the game plan, and done very well.

Game 1: First NFL game. he probably wanted to come out and throw the ball all over the field and impress everyone with his arm talent. He was coached to JUST DON'T TURN THE BALL OVER. They gave him a very tight game plan, with a lot of short dump off type passes. Or intentionally threw the ball where no body could get it. Not an inaccurate throw, just where nobody could get it. Good first effort from him because he did what he was told and DIDN'T TURN THE BALL OVER.

2ND game they gave him a bit more leeway. Loosened the leash a bit. he responded very well, came close twice, but still DIDN'T TURN THE BALL OVER.

Last night was different. Petty came into the game with a lead, and I think they wanted him to play to learn protect the lead , let the RB's and defense do their job, and put the game away. They gave him a very dummied down game plan, and wanted to see if he could control his ego, and NOT TURN THE BALL OVER. He did his job, the RB's and defense did theirs.

IMO, I think next week they are going to give him a quarter + off the chain. Let him air it out, and see how that works out. Then put him in moth balls for a year. I'm curious myself.

Even if it doesn't go so well, I'm still real happy with what I'm seeing from Petty. He's taking coaching well, and for a strong armed intelligent QB, that is super important.

I liked the pass Petty completed to Posey last night. That was an NFL quality throw. Good zip on the ball. Agree that they weren't trying to push too far with him for this game. Lots of handoffs. That's OK. You have to ease the kid in. I think Petty will get a chance to let it rip a little more on Thursday. Doesn't hurt to give him the experience.

I thought Ivory looked great last night, and was also impressed with Zac Stacy.

Dan Leberfeld ‏@jetswhispers 12m12 minutes ago New York, USA

Tre Mason is hurt and Gurley likely won't be ready for Week 1. Zac Stacy would have been Week 1 starter for Rams if he didn't ask out. #nyj
