Jets Waive Aboushi

The Jets activated Aboushi on Monday, but received a 24 hour exemption before they had to trim back down to 53

Today the Jets must decide if they want to keep Aboushi, and if they do, someone will have to be the corresponding cut.

Either way, today a decision has to be made.

I am real curious to see how this is handled. Not sure about this, but he never seemed to be in the hunt for a starting job this year and I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut. If not him then one of the other OL will go and my guess is it is between he and Winters. Harrison isn't going anywhere and I think they like Qvale because he projects to a higher ceiling. All of this is just my opinion, so take it for what it is worth.
There are some other very interesting roster subplots looming outside of what to do with Oday, like:
- Ridley;
- Milliner;
- Powell/Kerley and
- Richardson

I'd cut bait with Ridley if you ask me. The guy is injury prone, fumbles the ball constantly. I thought it was a bad pick up in the off season. WOuld have rathered signed Vereen.

Unless that is if the Jets found a trading partner regarding Jeremy Kerely.

ridley is on the PUP list and not taking up a roster spot. why would you cut him?

also, vereen got a 3-year, $12.35MM contract with $4.75MM guaranteed. ridley got a 1-year, $1.25MM contract with $800K guaranteed

Gotta be Winters, Ijalana or Qvale - Dozier is the backup center and Harrison is a prospect. Ijalana and Qvale Nd play tackle, so maybe Winters?

I think its between Winters and Oday, with Winters being a better fit in Gailey's blocking scheme. Another wild card is Ilalana, who is injury prone but a our only answer if Brick goes down. A developmental LT has to be a priority for MM this offseason, and maybe sooner if someone is stashing such a guy on their PS.

I just felt we could have drafted a RB with better potential than a guy who really isn't all that dependable.

I thought they like what they had in the OL and back-ups... so it was inevitable, IMHO.

I thought he played well at Left Guard last season. I'm a little surprised by this move. I would've thought they would cut Winters instead. IMO, this is just more good depth that they're parting ways with. Not a good move IMO.

what i like most about Bowles so far - he is not afraid to throw out the trash. Enough of these garbage depth players. Good to see them go. Winters needs to be replaced - as long as it's something better - but I don't see him being a meaningful contributor. Wouldn't be surprised to see Dozier go next year after another draft class.

I agree that next year's draft class should get us a developmental OT (hopefully LT) and perhaps a center in mid to late rounds, but I think Dozier because of his ability to play perhaps 4 of the 5 OL positions will stick. Winters and Ijilana I could easily see being let go.

He was not one of the 53 correct because of the suspension? So we don't have a roster spot free now that he is cut?
