Hey, is that image of Joe from behind with the extended digit copyrighted? Maybe something more than just the hand might really unite Jet fans. Even if it was copyrighted, don't copyrights run out? It's been a pretty long time.

I think a photo of JN raising the #1 is copyrighted. ..I don't know for how long.
Not sure a drawing of a generic raised hand with a raised index finger is quite the same thing

I tried doing graphics design for a campaign this past year and I will tell you their is alot of time and thought that goes with it. Kudos to those who worked on the design I have a suggestion.... I outsource it to someone else and I used fiverr an app or go to their website and find a designer and have them come up with some samples. We paid $5 dollars for one design and used them again for another and they charged me $10 for extras. Fiverr gigs are usually $5.... more if you want extras.... just a thought

Fair point, but it's also been used among Irish political groups. The NYC band Black 47 used a fist as part of its branding.
It carries connotations, both negative and positive, depending on perspective.
I love the Namath finger idea, particularly a generic drawn fist raised. It is obvious what it would symbolize, but it's so universal that it would not be in any way infringing on any single image copyright.
So my suggestion would be a football instead of an oval, a single fist raised with the index (not middle) digit raised, and a different font for Jets Fans United.
