New York Jets legend Joe Namath has certainly had his share of knee injuries, playing the entire decade of the 1970s on increasingly brittle knees.

On Sunday, Namath took to social media to ask why Geno Smith didn’t return to the Jets’ game against Baltimore after suffering his own injury.

It is worth noting that not all knee injuries are exactly alike, in shades of gray rather than sure black and white, and team doctors must have done some reason to keep him from playing in this game.

For what it’s worth, Smith said afterwards that he pleaded with doctors to allow him to return to game action, but that he was overruled by them and later declared out by the team from the issue.

This might be sacrilegious on this site, but sometimes Joe needs to just shut up. He says some really dumb things sometimes.

You have to forgive Joe, he played in a different era when guys played if they were half crippled, including Joe.

If you could walk back then, you played ... Jack Youngblood played an entire post season and Super Bowl with a broken leg.

I'm not saying I agree with what he said, but you have to put his frame of reference into context.

Not to me. I think that the old drunk should have stopped talking long ago. Great time and history here as an athlete, but as a spokesperson,.. no. Please stop.

HAHAHA, leave it to Namath who had 2 bad knees before career in NFL! Geno had great arm strength & all I kept hearing, but lets get it straight, he throws strong but is inaccurate passing. Marshall pass to far away in front & always passing behind or in front of WR's. One good pass all game that was thrown where it should be. So stop this nonsense about arm strength that does NO GOOD if you cant put the pass in a WR's hands where it belongs. Also Genos awareness in the pocket is pathetic. Also if Genos under center...RUN PLAY from Shotgun Pass..running from Shotgun gives Defense plenty of time to run to the ball. Sick of Geno experiment.

Can say no wrong in my eyes:

If you saw him play ,
Now that was a football player.

I loved Namath also, but I think its the alcohol talking when he says stuff like that. We all know things were different when he played, smelling salts, pain killers, etc. They were tough, no doubt. Its also why there are lawsuits from ex-players who had to play no matter what for fear for losing their job, and have ended up crippled mentally and physically.

Joe was awesome and a legend as far as I am concerned. He doesn't need to stop talking, Jets players just need to learn how to ignore him. And the fans have ZERO say in this. The fans never stepped foot on the field. Joe did and he was talking with his experiences from those days...

everyone on twitter including reporters tweeting to Joe to apologize to Geno for his lackluster comment yesterday, still waiting if he has the balls to do so... probably not while he is sober though...
