I loved Elton John's tribute song soon after Lennon was killed, Empty Garden.

IMO its a better record than his more famous tribute to Marilyn Monroe, Candle in the Wind.

What a different world it was in 1980. This is how the country learned that John Lennon had been killed, and being an avid football fan, of course I was watching this game and I vividly recall the moment Howard Cosell reported it.

Thanks Ham

Small correction. Candle in the Wind was composed, I believe as a memorial to the death of Princess Diana

Actually that was a remake he did for Diana when she died in 1997, the original version of Candle in the Wind was on the Yellow Brick Road album in 1973, long before Diana was a gleam in anyones eye, and it was a tribute to Marylin Monroe.

In fact the opening verse is "Goodbye, Norma Jean" which was Marylin's real birth name (Norma Jean Baker).
